artist Angela Nurse

Angela Nurse was born on the beautiful sun soaked Caribbean island of Barbados; a stark contrast to her newfound home nestled at the foot of the awesome Rocky Mountains of Calgary AB, Canada. Angela's Grandparents raised her in Barbados until she moved to Calgary in 1991 where she began singing with her church, and eventually became Worship Leader of Sunday service. Singing became important to Angela when as a small child in Barbados she followed her Grandmother around the island watching, listening, and all the while learning the craft, as her Grandmother Goldie Nurse so masterfully wielded her song. After that all it took was her Granny holding out a wooden tambourine and Angela was hooked. She tightly gripped that tambourine until she wore it out, and although she may not play it much now, she has never let go of the inspiration that came of it. She continues to be driven by her passion for music, love for people, and her faith in God to this day. Angela's music can be described as refreshing and energetic; her lyrics are positive yet maintain an edge with a unique style that needs to be heard to be understood. Angela has a way of blending a gospel flavour like that of one of her inspirations Mahalia Jackson, with a voice of unbridled power or of the most delicate silk, not unlike the great Ella Fitzgerald. She blends these styles together into a recipe that can be easily folded into a modern sound that appeals to the young and old alike. She can play with numerous genres of music while always remaining true to herself and her fans. She is a true professional, always entertaining, and an absolute talent that must be heard. A true master of her craft she is quick to embrace or adapt to anything new, and always excited to learn and experiment with any type of music.
