Melodic, lyrical, intelligent. Hard grooves, intricate instrumentation. Melancholy with a sign of hope. Andrew’s brand of acoustic rock is a blend of progressive rock, folk, funk, and a bit of jazz. Imagine Neil Young, Rush, Red Hot Chili Peppers, STP and Dave Mathews locked in a room together. Although there’s a bit of everything in there, even a taste of musical theatre, it’s always rock at its core, with a “less is more” approach that rock demands. The fact that Andrew is admittedly a drummer first explains the subtle-yet-complex drumming and not-so-simple rhythmic guitar playing in his music. As well, performing musical theatre across Canada brings a certain dramatic quality to both the songwriting and performance.
Already with one CD under his belt (This is my Theory, 2005), as well as a 3 song ep titled Punch Bowl Sessions, Andrew will soon be re-releasing his 2009 CD "What It Is, Too", and is working on material for a new album of celtic inspired rock & funk.
A Caper by birth, Andrew has been involved in the performing arts since he picked up his first set of drumsticks at the age of 10. He’s a graduate of the Canadian College of Performing Arts in Victoria, BC, was musical director/ performer for Grafton St. Dinner Theatre, and a substitute drum instructor for the Canadian Conservatory.
Acts that Andrew has backed up on drums (and sometimes guitar and bass) both live and in the studio include:
Frisky Biscuit, Jon Matheson, Kate Proctor, Tequlia, Risyn, Kevin MacDonald, Paula Danyluk, Dammien Alexander, Vagrant Hitchhiker, Sourdough Symphony, Troy "Junior" Arsenault (Wheeler), Ian Sherwood, Nic Swales, Cash Only (Johnny Cash Tribute), Hipeponymous (Tragically Hip tribute), John Scott Band, J.A.M., and Dark Horse.
Andrew currently plays with Wee Boy Pretty, Black Gold Victim, GreenHorn, and J.A.M..
