biographical info

"Andrew’s commitment to his craft, professionalism and charming attitude make him an absolute pleasure to work with". - Jenna Roebuck, Dawson City Music Festival.

"A gifted singer and songwriter. Follow him to see the seeds of an artist bound for highways and stages for years to come". - Paul Lowenberg, Northern Lights Festival Boreal.

"He's a little bit Jeff Buckley, a little bit Leif Vollebekk, but mostly he's just fantastic".- Amanda Putz, CBC Bandwidth.

With eight years of live performances under his belt, three cross Canada tours and two self-released/self-promoted albums, this young musician has gained the reputation of being a committed songwriter, a captivating performer and a tireless independent Canadian folk troubadour.

Over the years, Laviolette has showcased both his determination as an independent musician as well as his compelling storytelling abilities to audiences across Canada. Whether he’s working on his chops by playing all night for rowdy tavern crowds, sharing the stage with the likes of Doug Paisley, Bruce Peninsula and Geoff "The Whisky Rabbi" Berner at prestigious Canadian music festivals, or entertaining a train full of tourists crossing the country as the VIA Rail On-Board Entertainer, Laviolette grabs and holds his audience's attention with his "give ‘em everything you've got" performances.

During an Andrew Laviolette performance, audience members can expect to become a sort of “travelling companion”. Using his trademark rhythmic finger picking guitar-playing style, Laviolette first paints a musical landscape for his listeners and then transports them, with his pre-song dialogue and his many songs of wanderlust, to somewhere once traveled. It is through this unique traveling experience that listeners are able to revel in the intimate and almost out-of-body nature of an Andrew Laviolette performance.

Recently, Laviolette’s musical accomplishments include two spotlight performances at the 2012 Dawson City Music Festival and a three-week tour that took him from Dawson City Yukon and landed him some three weeks later in Thunder Bay Ontario. Laviolette now currently calls Thunder Bay home and will be spending the winter of 2012/13 working on recording his second album, which will contain new material and is scheduled for a spring 2013 release. Fans can also expect a spring/summer 2013 promotional tour for this new release.

New Album, New Music and New Funding Initiative Announcements

posted by Andrew Laviolette

Good Morning Good People,

I hope this note finds you well. I am writing you from my current “home” in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada, with some news I’ve been excited to share with you for some time now.

I am thrilled to announce that at the end of this month, I will begin the recording of a new Andrew Laviolette album. I’m pleased to be collaborating with both old and new friends on this upcoming release, and am confident in saying “you will like what you hear”.

I have spent the last three years promoting and touring my first album “This Far From Home” and I’m so grateful for all of the stories that collection of songs has afforded me. Seriously, some of my best chapters yet.

But, it’s about time I add another album to the ol’ beat up merch case!

One of the tricky (but liberating) realities of being an independent Canadian musician is that all aspects of being “a musician” are managed and facilitated by you, the artist. No agents to book your shows, no publicists to promote your music, and no record company to help fund the recording, production and distribution of your albums. Just you.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I’ve learned to embrace and savor the realities of being “on my own” as a musician. The arguing with venue bookers about “fair performance pay”, the shameless (and sometimes costly) self-promotion and the endless hours spent working away at grant and funding proposals are all experiences that have made me proud to say “I am a hard working and committed independent Canadian musician”.

Embarking on this new recording project presents some new and exciting challenges, and of course, a few intimidating hurdles. I’m humbled by the support I’ve already received for this project, but as is the case with every “independent” endeavor, I will need additional support to make this album the true success that I know it can be. Here’s where you, the fan, come in.

I’ve recently created a webpage where digital downloads of my music can be purchased. Onto this webpage I’ve uploaded two separate albums; “This Far From Home” as well as another album entitled “Southwest Wind”. “Southwest Wind” is a collection of four original songs that I had the great pleasure of recording during a month I spent living in Canada’s most northwest community, Old Crow Yukon. These recordings have never been released, until now! The music on this webpage can be downloaded for a suggested price of $7.00/album, or $1.00/song. You, as the purchaser, are also afforded the opportunity to choose to pay a higher amount if you feel so compelled to. All of the money that is made through the sales of these digital albums will go directly to funding the production costs of my upcoming album. I am looking to print 500 units of this upcoming album, which leaves me looking at a bill of $700 - $900.

I am coming to you, the fan of my music, and asking for support in my tireless pursuit and commitment to songwriting. Head on over to andrewlaviolette.bandcamp.com, buy yourself some brand new Andrew Laviolette music and help support the production of this upcoming album.

See you down the road,

Andrew Laviolette.
