biographical info
Andrew is a singer songwriter and guitar player from Montreal who has been recording under Andrew Johnston, or the moniker Andrew vs. the Enabler since 2006. Prior to this, Andrew played in The Gentleman’s Club who released their critically acclaimed album, “The Servant” in 2005. More recently Andrew has appeared on JF Robitaille’s acclaimed album “Calendar,” handling guitar duties.
On Andrew’s most recent release, The Wake of the Wonder Years, influences of such high profile indies such as The Constantines and Matthew Sweet embrace a little bit of Hall and Oates-a combination that can’t be beat. The 12-song album will astonish you with remarkable vocal layers, thunderous drums and deep grooves, with drummer George Donoso (High Dials) and bassist Alexandre Lapointe (Jason Bajada) as well as vocalist Amanda Mabro.
2011 has been a prolific year for Johnston, also seeing the release of the 8 song album “Ashton.” The album features stripped down versions of some of the songs from “Leader’s Factory,” and “The Wake of the Wonder Years,” and is a tribute to the small country town where Andrew was raised. Featuring only Johnston’s acoustic guitar and voice, the album is a reminder that Johnston’s often wide ranging, ambitious productions are grounded in the simplicity of easily hummed folk and pop tunes.
