biographical info

Andrew J.H. Gillis spends his time writing home grown folk tunes on the east coast of Canada. Hailing from The Annapolis Valley, he currently lives and performs in the harbor city of Halifax.

Hosting a songwriters open mic at the Armview restaurant gives him a chance to perform his new tunes and keep his finger on the pulse of the local folk / songwriter scene. He is currently at work on his second record, to be released towards the end of 2010. Andrew is also a sound design technician and records his music, along with other local groups at his studio; Whiskey Jack Audio.

In mid 2009, after a stint as a bassist for Halifax folk group Acres and Acres, Andrew began preparing to leave the east coast. He sold his belongings, packed what remained and followed his muse to the Yukon Territory. The excitement and romanticism he felt for the wild north was met with toil and heartache. It was time to move on, and Andrew began a three-month journey that led him from Whitehorse to Las Vegas, Dallas, Atlanta, Brooklyn, Bar Harbor, and finally to the shores of his home in Nova Scotia. With a new found perspective and plenty of fodder he set up shop and got to work on his current effort, Divided We Fall, to be released in late 2010.

Andrew also fronts Halifax alternative band Apollo’s Creed, who is preparing to release their first record Amusica Plight. He has teamed up with old friend and  guitarist Mike Nahirrnak (Trouble Shooters, Harbour Fire) and Halifax drummer and songwriter Kolston Glogan (Soho Ghetto). He is looking to fill out the rest of the lineup (bass) and continue performing for the release of the record.  Releasing these records performing their content and releasing additional online content are Andrew’s immediate plans. Keep your ear to the ground for more digital releases and show announcements.
