Alex began his musical education with his first violin lesson at the age of 4. He continued studying violin through high school and where he also began to study double bass and electric bass. After being accepted into the music program at Wilfrid Laurier University on the violin, Alex switched to viola studying for four years with Christine Vlajk of the Penderecki String Quartet.
It was in his first year of study at WLU that Alex began to take a serious interest in composition. He has studied with Scott Good and Cam McKittrict. Currently, in his final year of study at WLU, Alex is studying with Linda Catlin Smith and attending seminars run by Peter Hatch and Glenn Buhr. Alex has plans to apply to Grad School and currently has an interim position working with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony.
