artist Albatross

My name is Charles Cheang, and Andrew Elias is my partner and we form an acoustic/alternative duo named Albatross out of Toronto, Canada. I write most of the music, and Andrew is mainly there to help me with writing and with lyrics. He does not perform with me any longer and on stage I'm a solo artist. I can perform anywhere, most of the time, I'm flexible with dates and performance times and I'm just an overall confident and inspirational performer.

My music training started when I was around 8 years old. I played piano at the Royal Conservatory Music Level for 7 years until I was 15 years old and I completed level 8. Then I continued the piano but without lessons and started picking up the guitar. Which is my true favourite instrument I can play. At the same time, I have been playing the Alto Saxophone and Electric Bass in school bands and class. I have been working hard in the past 4 years playing guitar, learning techniques, writing new music all the time. I recently just started picking up the harmonica as well and it will be incorporated into performances and newly recorded songs.

I started Albatross in February 2008 with the help of Andrew Elias. I write songs constantly for this purpose and have been playing local shows and just recently 2 charity shows for Leukemia Research and Unicef. Also a few venues downtown Toronto have given me experience in the indie scene.

In November 2008, I went to the studio and recorded 4 songs which I made a demo CD to sell to my fans and friends to raise money for Leukemia Research in the Hospital for Sick Kids of Toronto. So far I'm looking at around 700 dollars to be donated, but more when I get more copies of the CD made.

That's pretty much up to date, but in the meantime I just performed a Banquet Hall to raise money to Sick Kids this past Sunday and I'm back at home now working on my music, writing some new music which includes harmonica and looking for shows to play all over Canada. And especially during the summer, maybe even a small tour with other bands.

A lot of shows will be happening from the end of January up until the end of summer
