biographical info
Alanna J Brown is an accomplished singer/songwriter from Toronto, Ontario. Since the age of 13 she’s been singing and accompanying her original music on piano and guitar. While completing her bachelor of contemporary/jazz music at Humber College, Alanna recorded her EP “Tuesday’s Coming” at the Humber Recording Studio. She independently released her lyrical, Sufjan Stevens/Joni Mitchell-inspired EP of 4 original songs accompanied by a string quintet and a 16-piece choir in 2011. Then in 2012 she recorded a full-length album of original music with multiple juno-award winning producer/engineer Jeff Wolpert.
Alanna is known for her angelic voice, poetic lyrics and unpredictable melodies and chord changes. Canadian legend Rik Emmett of Triumph said, “Watch out for Alanna at the Grammy’s!” during one Emmett’s songwriting workshops.
Alanna has been featured as a guest artist on many musicians’ albums in genres ranging from folk-rock to jazz to hip-hop and R&B and recently, dubstep.
She has experienced touring, recording, writing and performing including time she spent as a member of Toronto’s indie-rock group Still Life Still. Now she feels ready to share her own folk-rock music with the world.
While working in Toronto as a full-time private music teacher, Alanna continues to perform regularly around Ontario at venues such as: The Cameron House, The Sister, Clintons, Lee’s Palace, The El Mocambo and The Central.
