biographical info
There are those that would claim isolation shaped or molded them into who and what they are, whether positive or negative. Adam Baxter grew up on a dairy farm in Middleton, Nova Scotia. Not so isolated that he was bereft of human contact but he was isolated from a nurturing musical community to help shape his creativity. He had his friends and family supporting him through the multi band phase of his youth but when he decided to move to St. John's, Newfoundland to pursue a Bachelor Degree in classical music he found that musical community.
Fast forward several years later, Baxter has independently released several official albums and a slew of give-away singles, completed his Bachelor's degree with a focus on Composition, continues to host and book one of the most successful and long running (4 years) weekly songwriter's nights in St. John's and toured half way across the continent and back several times. Not too shabby for a kid from the farm.
Like his formative years are a blend of the farm life and coastal life by the sea, his music is a blend of multiple genres, from his early punk and metal days to his use of pop music idioms and classical structures and moods. Mashing up the styles of folks such as Elton John, The Ramones, Glen Hansard and Dashboard Confessional he blends humour with pathos in an emotional way audiences always connect to.
Attempting to beat the isolation, Baxter has gone on several Atlantic province tours, and two Eastern Canadian tours in 2009 and 2010. Now finished university, Baxter plans on touring as much as possible. He prides himself in the fact that he is one of the most frequently employed musicians in one of the world's most musical cities.
