biographical info
Aaron Collier may be known as Halifax's most consistently innovative keyboardist, but the Prince Edward Island native is most recently calling Toronto home. Filtered though his love of rock, early funk and soul and modern electronic music, this classically trained pianist's unique sound and distinctive style have secured his place among Canada's best and brightest frontier-pushing musicians.
In 2001 Collier became the keyboardist for international touring and recording artists The Jimmy Swift Band. The distinct self-defining genre of Rocktronica JSB has created is due in large part to Collier's integral role in the band. Three studio albums, a live album and an upcoming DVD later, JSB continues pushing boundaries musically, touring extensively and selling out shows across the continent.
When he is not performing with JSB or recording in the studio with the likes of Isis Salam (Thunderheist), Bruce Gouthro, Nick Eede and other world class artists, Aaron can be found sharing the stage with a host of talented musicians. Whether experimenting with "looping madness duo" Scientists of Sound, improvising dance music with DJ Nick Nonsense or performing his own musical compositions as a solo electronic artist, Aaron is not afraid to take on all challenges as a composer as well as a performer. In 2005 he produced and individually hand made his first e.p. "Islands" and in 2008 he released his first full length electronic album. "Love" was inspired by an intense love of life and its richness, and the album's sonically lush tracks are driven by inspired electronic beats and thrive on dense and thoughtful ambience. September 2010 will see the release of his newest effort "Neo". This is a recording of completely improvised acoustic piano+computer music, where the worlds of Keith Jarrett-esq freeform improvisations are combined with live sampling and looping to create an album which is truly the first of it's kind.
