biographical info
Flying under the radar of Victoria’s music scene, Antilles have been recording and playing live for over a year. Antilles lite , their acoustic alter ego (all the great tunes, half the band members), have recently played successful shows at both Namaste and Spiral Café. They have also recently appeared at Steamer’s open stage and on CFUV’s “Live Café” with James Kasper.
Songs about loss, heartache, sex and sleep permeate an Antilles set-list. Hard, cutting lyrics like “Who gives a damn about your principles?” are spat out in the song Footprints in the dust. They are smoothed over with quiet cynicism and humourous words like “Don’t worry Ma! I only smoke when I’m single” in the song To love is to leave behind. The dichotomy creates a well-rounded and engaging performance.
The band’s two principal songwriters, K.C. Hingley and Josh Szczepanowski compliment each other lyrically and musically. Josh’s sparse and subtle lead guitar riffs join K.C.’s fingerstyle and acoustic rhythms to form a base for their harmonic vocal lines. Led by a strong sense of melody, musicianship and songwriting, an Antilles live show is not to be missed.
Antilles are currently accepting bookings for both duo-acoustic and full band shows. Their set includes both cover songs and original material.
