biographical info
Emergy. Emergy. As I listened to this album-length body of work over and over, that non-word kept asserting itself: EMERGY. Maybe it's because of this collection's energy: Amanda Emery, powered by influences like Kenny Loggins, comes off cool, mixing pop and jazz (see: Loggins' "This is It")--the "quiet storm" sound. Emergy? Could have to do with "merging." Amanda's hubby Jim backs her up with an impressive array of instrumentation, and the musical progressions are constantly moving, playing with melody and rhythm without being too flashy. The fact that they're in a relationship, merged, adds a nice color to the romantic flavor of the lyrics and the passion in Emery's voice. "Emergy," too, might mean, "emerges." "Wild Ride" and "It Takes You Back" are the standout cuts here. Amanda and Jim, your "emergy" must make fellow Canadian indie music peers mighty proud.
