biographical info

Alana’s sultry, powerful voice tells us stories of heartache, love, lust and revenge. A unique blend of pop, alt-country and folk – Alana has struck a chord, and developed her own unique sound. At the age of 17, Alana attended California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), an internationally esteemed school in Los Angeles, Alana studied classical voice, jazz, East Indian music, and other eclectic vocal styles. She toured around inner-city schools giving performances with a Salsa Band; sang with a Bulgarian women’s group; and performed her own compositions with her rock band. She was also the driving force behind two CDs featuring women musicians at CalArts. After Calarts, Alana landed a job with a music publisher/producer Steve Lindsay, who worked with industry heavies such as Elton John and Leonard Cohen. She was also introduced to the talented pop songwriter Billy Steinberg – the man behind such mega-hits as Madonna's "Like a Virgin" and the Divinyls’ smash "I Touch Myself." Over the years, Billy become a mentor to Alana. Since moving back to Canada in 2002, Alana has written her best songs yet: "I'm glad I left L.A. when I did. Canada is my home and the land and the people are a great source of inspiration. I am happy to throw myself into the music scene as a Canadian singer-songwriter."
