biographical info
With the release of What Happened, her first independently produced album, Aimee Leonard has turned the heads of music critics, folk festivals, fellow songwriters, CBC radio, and an ever-growing community of fans from every walk of life. Anna Maria St. Järnell of Collected Sounds writes “Aimee Leonard's voice is incredibly powerful and she has the songs to match”. Vancouver songwriter, James Kasper, says “she's like a more aggressive, more intense Tori Amos.”
A native of Sudbury, Ontario, Aimee spent her formative years in the small northern community of Sioux Lookout, Ontario. Her classical training in piano and voice – which she began at the age of four - was to become the foundation for a diverse style, combining a musical rainbow of influences. Drawing on everything from Ella Fitzgerald to Britney Spears, from Patsy Cline to Imogen Heap, Aimee has created a style that is distinct and unpredictable, familiar but fresh.
