The idea for the name "About Samneric" came from the William Golding novel, "Lord of the flies". Two of the characters, Sam and Eric, became known as a single Samneric. These two characters were instrumental in the representation of the novel's main themes of Loss of innocence, and conformity, as well as the importance of loyalty and unity for the progression of society. So, in essence, the name "About Samneric" is an unfinished thought about the themes presented in "Lord of the Flies".
About Samneric started with John on vocals, and Rob on guitar, Mike on Bass, and Pete on drums. After playing a few shows, we decided that we needed a more experienced singer, and John wanted to play guitar. So we added vocalist Matt Bown to the lineup, and moved John to guitar. Having 2 guitarists has added a lot of new texture to the instrumentals, and Matts' vocal ability and musicianship has brought the entire band to a new level.
