biographical info
A Vicious Lullaby formed in the Fall of 2010, after Luke Armstrong (drums) had gotten back from his trip through Africa and Europe. He was taming lions, for real. Brendan Malone (guitar & vox) had been writing new material for a long time and was ready to form a new band, and where better to start than his long time friend Curtis Jagt (bass). Brendan had seen Luke Playing with his last band Ossified, and after hearing that they had disassembled, A Vicious Lullaby had found their final member. (although the name "A Vicious Lullaby" came later from Curt)... Their first show was a Halloween house party, playing song that have stuck with the band ever since: Cosm, Circular Cause and Consequence, Medically Designed Altruism, Yin-Yang and Dissociative Abomination.
After a whole lot'a writing, house parties, and fine tuning the band decided to get some tracks recorded. They went to Trevor MacKensie's studio Vert Productions, and recorded 5 tracks including two newer songs "Garden Gate" and "Psychonautics 101". The recording process hit snags along the way, Brendan was suffering from wisdom tooth complications which affected his singing abilities, and funding was cut short for other reasons.. Despite these difficulties the demo turned out good, (thanks to a very helpful engineer and his wife) but the demo is nothing compared to the band playing live. They plan on releasing their first LP soon and they aren't kidding around this time, keep an eye out for it this year.
for A Vicious Lullaby, playing live is how they gain the most fans. So far the recordings just don't do justice to the punchy ecstatic groove of their live performance. Luke Armstrong beats on the drums like they were talking about his mother, and takes no second when it comes to one liners. Curtis Jagt sways and bops around in sync with the subterranean groove between the notes coming out of the speakers, his back-up vocals are well placed and dynamic, and his fingers slide around the bass with the style and ease of a seasoned pro. Brendan Malone is the wild card, its hard to expect when he will go from timid and quirky to a full blown supernatural entity belting out sustained notes that sounds like a forest full of cicada bugs, all while maintaining his guitar parts seamlessly. His guitar hooks and leads are nothing to be scoffed at either, and often earn respect from more seasoned musicians offering their ear.
Over all, A Vicious Lullaby is an extremely unique and fun band. Their songs are very diverse and often meaningful. Their Improv's are inspiring and transcendental. and The members are all really humble and kind guys.
