biographical info

A Random Exit: is a noise-pop band with members in Toronto and Sudbury. Originally conceived in 1999 by Michael Goat and Granto as a rhythm-based project focusing on hypnotic, floor-pounding arrangements complemented by live instruments, AREX developed a cult following throughout Northern Ontario. In late 2000, the duo performed on "The Zero Signal", an industrial-tinged radio show on Sudbury's CKLU hosted by Nathan Plastic. In late 2001, Nathan joined the band as lead vocalist, bringing a more confrontational energy and charismatic presence to AREX's live shows. As a trio, the band have been described as creating dark electro grooves, measuring out graceful synths with swirling, sub-bass noise on songs dealing with sex, obsession, and fatalism. AREX's first full-length CD, "Perdition", was released in the spring of 2003 and has received some significant college radio and club play. By mid 2005, the band shifted direction slightly with the addition of noise guitarist, Scott Dell. While much of the content remains the same, the band has become more focused on transforming electronic compositions into noise-pop songs with live instruments (guitar, bass, moog). Their new sound is rhythm-based, less constrained and noisier. They are currently working on their second full length CD.
