biographical info

The incendiary romances of rogue adolescence, rapt by the excesses of downers and bummer rock synonymous with the 90's, provide the rudimentary staples relevant in A Pale Blue's breed of grunge country rock n roll, and the band's humble beginnings...

Trading the snow for the rain, in late 2006, songwriter Brock Allen fled his estranged homestead in Alberta for the west coast urbs of Vancouver, British Columbia. Reclusive by nature, and impelled by circumstance, Brock quickly birthed a 12 song "demo" album that would later serve as the platform on which the band would stage itself. Shortly after reuniting with organist Shira Blustein, whose band Blood Meridian had fallen on an indefinite hiatus, Shira convinced Brock to let her help put together a band that would breathe new life into the home recordings. The band's recruits, bassist Andy Bond, drummer Galen Rigter and guitarist Jon Reddit, musically consummated their enkindled relationship in late 2007. Two shows in, the band were instantly awarded one of the Georgia Straight’s coveted “Best of” spots in 2008. Ensuing the welcome addition of pedal steel player, Bryce Janssens, the band began writing new material for a record that would translate their laid back, guttural brand of Americana to tape.  The band stayed busy playing live however, completing tours with local rock cohorts Ladyhawk (Jagjaguwar Records), and Toronto’s Quest For Fire (Teepee Records) before being asked by Stephen McBean of Black Mountain to record a song as his backing band for the movie Everything Louder Than Everything Else.

The resulting record from A Pale Blue’s 6-months spent tracking in studios, kitchens, and bedrooms around Vancouver, is a soaring debut that brims with loud, wall-of-sound guitars and scratchy soulful vocals.  It veers from gritty, driving rock, to harmony soaked somber ballads.  With an engaging live show and new record in tow, A Pale Blue are fast becoming a pillar of Vancouver’s rock scene.
