The Vancouver band Brasstronaut has been a favourite on The Signal since the release of their much-acclaimed debut Mt. Chimaera, which earned the group a Polaris Prize nomination and a SOCAN Echo Songwriting Prize. We invited them to perform at our first SignalFest in Vancouver, and we've been folowing them intently ever since.
On May 15, the band released their sophomore effort, Mean Sun, and they're about to set out on a cross-Canada tour. Brasstronaut charted new territory by crowdfunding their promotion and publicity for the new record, using Indiegogo.com to channel support from fans around the world.
We thought it would be a great time to talk shop with leader and keyboardist Edo Van Breeman about the inspirations behind the lastest record, and the challenges and opportunities this large band faces in the internet music revolution.

Laurie Brown sat down for a chat with Edo, and you can listen to their conversation here.
And be sure to stream some of the band's music on their CBC Music profile.
