Joel Plaskett was on a bit of a roll in Toronto back in May. He performed a sold-out show at the Danforth Music Hall and the next day played to a capacity crowd at the CBCMusic.ca Festival.
Late afternoon was the perfect time of day for Plaskett's festival set. Fans who brought their kids were at the end of their day and the night-time fans were just showing up. So he got the benefit of a sea of people cheering him on.
Plaskett's set was high-energy and his guitar playing prowess was on display as he ripped through some pretty amazing riffs and solos. His band, the Emergency, was in fine form and was augmented with the guitar and vocals of Plaskett protégé Mo Kenney. The set consisted of mostly new material from Plaskett's latest release, The Park Avenue Sobriety Test, which is a good thing because the album is among Plaskett's best.
