Jewel to star as June Carter Cash in new movie
This summer, Jewel will begin filming her role as June Carter Cash in the new Lifetime production, The June Carter Cash Story. The movie will encapsulate Carter Cash’s life from her childhood days in Virginia to her marriage to Johnny Cash. The story is based on John Carter Cash’s book about his mother, and actor Matt Ross will star in the role of Johnny.
Rosanne Cash song featured in U.S. tourism ads
Speaking of the Cash family, Johnny Cash’s eldest daughter Rosanne Cash has a new song that will be heard in a new series of ads promoting tourism for the U.S. Cash composed “Land of Dreams” for the campaign, and she appears in some of the commercials.
Ricky Skaggs marks 30th anniversary with Grand Ole Opry
On May 15, members will get together to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Ricky Skaggs’s membership in the Grand Ole Opry. Alison Krauss, Josh Turner and the Whites will be amongst the guests honouring him. Skaggs, who’s currently touring, will also be inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame later this year.
Chris Isaak celebrates Sun Records
Chris Isaak will celebrate the legacy of Sun Records in a PBS TV special to air on June 2 called Chris Isaak: Beyond the Sun Live!. Isaak will perform songs from his favourite Sun artists, including Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Roy Orbison. Isaak will also perform some of his own material.
Lionel Richie bows out of Duets
Lionel Richie has dropped his role as a mentor on the upcoming ABC TV show, Duets. He will be replaced by John Legend. Kelly Clarkson, Robin Thicke and Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles will remain as the remaining mentors. Richie cited scheduling conflicts as the reason for his inability to participate.
The TV show will feature celebrity mentors who will search for duet partners across the country. The selected partner will then perform with the celebrity in front of a live audience. Duets is scheduled to start on ABC on May 24.
Keith Urban and Vince Gill are attached to their guitars
Keith Urban has a Telecaster guitar that he named Clarence. The guitar is named after the angel in It’s A Wonderful Life. Urban said if he could put one thing in the Country Music Hall of Fame to represent his career, the guitar would be his choice. But Urban might want to have a chat with Vince Gill before making that decision. Gill donated his childhood guitar to the hall. However, Gill told The Associated Press that he feels the loss now that he can’t get his hands on the instrument. He says he does understand that it’s fun for fans to see the personal items on display, though.
Little Big Town names three items that represent their career
Little Big Town says that if the band were to donate items to the Country Music Hall of Fame to represent their career, they would have three things: a big white van, a television and aluminum foil. Before they became famous, Little Big Town toured in a van with a TV. The reception was bad, so they would wrap tinfoil around the antennae to pick up their favourite shows on the road.
