Toronto quartet Zeus is the band behind CBC Radio 3’s featured album of the week with Busting Visions, their second full length album out March 27. This rock outfit started out as a backing band for Jason Collett and collaborated with Broken Social Scene and Bahamas. With three songwriters and an expressive singer, the band has often been referred to as Beatles-esque. Their songwriting is filled with catchy hooks and pop harmonies that have you paying close attention to the lyrics. Busting Visions was recorded at the band’s studio and at fellow labelmate Feist’s ranch.
Zeus’s debut album, Say Us, topped our radio charts, garnered the band a Polaris Music Prize nomination, won the XM Verge album of the year award and had Zeus performing shows with Belle & Sebastian, Broken Social Scene, Metric and others.
The band played at SXSW this year and received high praise from Rolling Stone, Jimmy Fallon, Spin and NPR – all commenting on how Zeus made an impression at the festival. In an article titled “Possibly Life-Changing Musical Discoveries from SXSW 2012,” Esquire writer Ann Powers says: "Remember the band Stillwater from the movie Almost Famous? Toronto-based Zeus is that band, if its members had included Paul McCartney and taken a lot more acid. As fun as 21st-century classic rock gets.”
