"Others" by Indigo Joseph has been named CBC Music's Song of the Summer!

We started with more than 150 songs at the beginning of August. Voters then narrowed it down to 40, then 10, and now have chosen a winner.

The voting in the top 10 was close; it came down to the final seconds, and in the end the winning margin was a mere handful of votes.

Voters chose well. "Others," a single which came out earlier this year, has the qualities we were looking for in a summer song, and is a new discovery for CBC Radio 3 listeners (the band has only released one EP). It will be the first song from the Regina band that we put into rotation.

CBC Radio 3 will be playing "Others" throughout the day, or you can listen to it on demand below. Check back in the coming days to see our profile of the band.

Congratulations also goes out to the Strumbellas and their song "In This Life," which is the editor's choice honourable mention as the song they felt most captured their criteria of a catchy summer song. Check it out here.

We can't have neighbourhood parties.

People like the guy I saw last night on the bikeride home tripping balls on something would show up.

he had a massive lizard in a dog harness (like the front ones they use for pugs) on the end of a piece of rope. it was hissing and scrabbling around on the asphalt.

For people from out of town, they (Indigo Joseph) even have a fence on 13th Avenue painted in their namesake (at the delicious La Cucaracha). Which is how you know you've made it as a band in Regina - whether or not you have a brightly coloured fence with your name painted on it.

On the song, after first listen, I'm kind of meh. It's okay, but I'm pretty sure it couldn't be my song of summer. Not like Sherman Downey and the Ambiguous Case. I thought their song was very solid.

My latest post, about camels, just pfffffffffffted, and the comments are again scrambled. Poor moi.

Anyway, here's a link to whole stuffed camel, the recipe.

The two last parags:

There is a reference in culinary expert Richard Sterling's book The Fearless Diner in which he claims to have met someone who cooked the entire recipe for "some sheik or other," in Saudi Arabia. Water Music by T. Coraghessan Boyle contains a recipe for camel stuffed with dates, plover eggs, carp, seasoned bustards, and sheep, baked for two days on hot coals in a trench.[7]

Remastered CD versions of the Pink Floyd album Atom Heart Mother contain a card of "Breakfast Tips". On one side is a recipe for a "Traditional Bedouin Wedding Feast", detailing the stuffing of a chicken inside of a lamb, which is stuffed inside a goat, which is then stuffed inside a camel, and cooked over a charcoal fire.[8]

I use "persnickety" all the time to describe that kind of Ottawan couple who occasionally comes into the Black Sheep, in clean shirt and ironed jeans, the older woman with expensive hair, and says we have tickets, where's our table? And sniffs when told it's mostly standing room. "P & p", privileged and persnickety.

Some have been known to leave. A hasty reimbursement is always offered.

Putting a crease in jeans is a no-no, was what I was trying to get to. That's sort of an unexplainable fact, I believe.

Giving them a shot of the iron to unrumple them some, especially at the seams and pockets, nothing wrong with that.

Summer Song Feedback. I felt  the Strumbellas and their song "In This Life," met the criteria the best as well. There were other songs that were funny, creative and good, but didn't meet the objectives. The most critical objective I looked for was "sing along" - could we sing along to it in the car or around the summer camp fire. The song "Others" isn't as easy to sing along to. :( My two cents. It was fun hearing new music though. Thanks!

SRK @ 9:19  this part is so true:

"Burroughs adds an analysis of control over human beings exercised by language ("the Word"), time, and space (i.e., man's physical existence and the mental constructs he uses to survive and adapt). Drugs, sex, and power control the body, but "word and image locks" control the mind, that is, "lock" us into conventional patterns of perceiving, thinking, and speaking that determine our interactions with environment and society."

I was thinking of the vocabulary that passionate US patriots use, or ecophiles, or anti-pollution activists, or petroleum, or nuclear advocates. They all do what he's just said to have said, there. Use words that want to lock the auditor into conventionalised (and wanted) responses.

(Not sure if the above interests or not.)

Only explanation I can give is this, and it's not definitive:

The default sort for comments somehow got screwed up, possibly in the DataBase or the server cache after a recent maintenance update.  The code did not change.

But we had to 'fix' the code in order for it to sort correctly.  That's all I can say.  I'm off tomorrow so don't even bother invoking my name, it will be in vain.

Have a great weekend!

Also, watched the video for Shad's new video.... it's A-Mazing. The song is. The video is also fine. Why does PACK AD get a full day blog about their video but SHAD does not? Hmmm. Whatever. It's gooooooooood stuff, puts a happy face on your head.

@verborgen - Oh, yes, I suppose you would what with living in Germany and all! I forgot about that, when I was in Germany, trying to type when I went to a sketchy internet cafe and being all like, "what's up with these keys"?

That double S thing, the crazy letter that looks like a B... man, that's the trippiest.

David Cameron said it was clear the British Parliament does not want action and "I will act accordingly".

Also, apparently they've cast Jay Baruchel as me in the series. The barber looks a little bit like the thinner and more hipstery fellow from Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, etc. The lady could be played by a somewhat more edgy Zoey Deschanel type...somewhere between her and Fairuza Balk (sp?)
