I think I need to explain my love for Del Barber. Just read his Radio 3 bio. Everything he says is just perfect. I feel like we have a lot in common. Plus we both have a love for the CBC. Therefore we are soulmates.

Re TOP 10 INDIE CANADIAN CRUSHES: oof, that's a tough one...and part of this most definitely feels like it's breaking rule #2 with respect to non-creepiness, but here goes (in no particular order):

1) Feist: funny, beautiful, great voice. That's pretty much the template for most of the people on this list. 

2) Sarah Harmer: see above. Also, she seemed really nice and her dedication to a cause gives her extra attractiveness points for passion. 

3) Lisa Lobsinger: extra points for occasionally bizarre hair that still looks dead sexy. 

4) Kathleen Edwards: I haven't seen her play in a while, but I know a while back she had kind of a country rock girl thing going...and it worked. Mr. Justin Vernon has excellent taste.

5) Rose Cousins: maybe the best eyes in Canadian music.  

6) Emily Haines: she's got a rock attitude which is a little scary but simultaneously sexy. 

7) Jasmin Parkin of Mother Mother: this crush developed as I volunteered at their 2011 Toronto Canadian Music Week show. She has a lot of fun on stage. Fun is attractive.  

8) and 9) Tegan and Sara (tie): double the trouble. "But, Smallie" you scream "they don't like dudes in that way." Right. As compared to the other people on this list--all of whom will, of course, engage in torrid love affairs with me? MAJOR FUNNY POINTS FOR T&S. 

10) And, finally, number 10 on my list but number 1 in your hearts: Dan Mangan. That's right, Dan Mangan. The fellows don't do it for me in that way, nor does Dan, but on some non-sexual level there's a swoon-worthiness on a similar plane to all the other lovely people in this list. Nice + funny + ridiculously talented.

Good afternoon everyone! It was a long morning, but finally internet is restored to my office! 

I'm probably the only one who picked Mike Dawson, but that's more of an intellect thing. I would make furious love to his mind. Plus he looks like a cuddler.

Oh, off-subject:

Some of you may remember my posting, a couple of weeks ago, about my neighbour having found a bike abandoned on our street. A very nice (Greg) Lemond Alpes-d'Huez with Campagnolo groups.

I took it under my wing bacause it was a good bike (my neighbour having simply leaned it against his cedar hedge, in the hopes the owner would pass by -- fat chance), and 'putered up, then put up, a few posters here and there. Oh, and there also.

Well the owner saw one and called me up.

The short of it, he's gotten back a bike stolen through a break-in in his garage, a high-quality bike he'd had for seven months, from his uncle, who'd died. (Geez, sounds like a bummer, now. It isn't.)

It's a happy ending to a stolen bike story. I'm real happy too. Sometimes you do good.

Oh yes, I don't think Kytami has been mentioned.  Every time I've seen Delhi to Dublin (who she is no longer part of), I've had puppy eyes for her.

Dear marie, I identified the bike as being a LEMOND Alpes-d'Huiz, 'cause that's an awfully characteristic name, but didn't give the colours (frame: orange, and tires with wide blue stripe) nor the groupos -- the brake components and the derailleurs -- which were Campagnolo. Best brand in the world.

On my answering machine (I was in the garden), the guy identified those.

There could be no doubt, and there was none possible once I met him. Genuine reactions, etc.

@binsy - Why you hatin' on Matt Barber?

You could probably take some lyrics from any one of the artists on the list and examine them under the microscope and say "those are really lame".

The fact is lyrics are set to music and often the melody conveys images and mood that paint a picture in the listener's head. I would wager to say that very few lyrics are great prose. Even Dylan's best lyrics seem somewhat silly when examined critically, but they conveyed feelings and images very powerfully.

Lighten up, I don't think you have to bash Matthew Barber because some like the tall left handed minstrel rather than Dell Barber. They are both fine musicians in my opinion.

Since this is the topic today, I was trying to engage with it on the level of "him?  . . . really?" I don't get it. 

Not at all hating on him personally. Probably a really nice guy.

I've since quit smoking but it is a good way to hang out in the alley & meet Canadian musicians.

oh dear, I left Tim Bovaconti off my list too. I had a beer with him in Chicago once at a Ron Sexsmith show. he's quite tall. & adorable & nice.
