One of the latest videos to be making the rounds is of a young Ryan Gosling singing and busting some serious dance moves at a 1991 talent show. One of these sweet, sweet moves happens to something known as the Roger Rabbit

This had me thinking about dance moves. Sure, dancing is fun and if you’re enjoying yourself it shouldn’t really matter if you are good at dancing or not. Try not to be preoccupied, let loose, have a good time – but please leave a few moves to the pros.

There are a variety of reasons, from embarrassment factor to tooth loss, that are behind this list of five dance moves that should be left to the professionals.

1. The Roger Rabbit.

Named after the character in the 1988 Disney film Who Framed Roger Rabbit, the Roger Rabbit is similar to the running man, but increases your risk of tripping by 47 per cent. Skipping backwards may sound easy, but try doing it while simultaneously re-enacting the “I must, I must, I must increase my bust” arm movements from Are You There, God? It’s Me Margaret. See? Leave it to the pros.

2. The Cabbage Patch.

According to "Dancin’ Kim," the Cabbage Patch (which is also “totally rad”) is all about isolating your rib cage and moving your arms. In addition to an increased risk of punching your dancing neighbour, you might be mistaken for a zombie tin man.

3. Thread the needle.

Do you like your teeth? If so, just remember you are not as flexible as you were in 1991.

4. The splits.

Besides requiring the space necessary for your legs to instantly go horizontal, you might want to bring a spare pair of pants, as the probability of pants/undergarments being split are high. There is also the risk of someone saying, “Why is someone trying to do the splits on the dance floor?”

5. Anything James Brown says you should do, but you happen to not be James Brown.

Do you dance?

Ever have a mishap on the dance floor?
What are your signature moves? Any you’ve retired?
