I'm not listening to TCNH right now, but a lot of the music I've been listening to lately (including the main feed) has had really poppy explosions, similar to when you strike a microphone with a drumstick (don't ask.) I find it really annoying and I'm not sure if it's my machine or the stream. Does anyone else hear it?

bengineer, my feed is through iTunes, and is good. I haven't heard what you say on the ordinary R3 stream, the odd time I've used that.

Good Morning Kirk did you stay at the Gladstone to the end last night? We left when TheIceman offered to give us a ride back to Mississauga.

Finally heard a host break (astorrrmt) (laptop problems today).  Even though pj was his usual acidic self, I agree with him, and I wondered when we got into the studio why there were so few mics.  But then again, we were all running on minimal sleep - but we were all still really glowing from the astonishing experience. 

This was also a very free form co-hosting, that's for sure!

It's a fun show!  I'm sure Craig had a blast!

That's why we ("we" as in the people who plan these kinds of things, not me) are going to do Bands on a Boat and just rock a cruise ship from NFLD to Vancouver, around the Panama canal with stops all along the way. Shouldn't cost too much to put on or attend. Maybe even free and gov't money used to put it on. That sounds likely.

@laurita - there is one train, six days per week, between Montreal and Halifax.  But honestly, I cannot see such a trip from Nova Scotia.  You need those multiple days to forge the friendships and develop that magic. 

@ FT-- yep. If the govt can afford to add 30 new MPs to the House of Commons, there must be some cash for a radio 3 cruise.

@laurita Halifax - Ottawa is via Montreal. You change to a corridor train there.

For everyone else: we can do Halifax - Montreal on The Ocean, take the express to Toronto, then The Canadian to Vancouver for next year's Polaris (if they keep it out there and it doesn't conflict with NXNE).

Of course, I'll be in Toronto by then.

@ Begineer: excellent idea. i'm either going to be in ottawa or montreal at that point; this sounds like it'd be perfect! no need to do anything illegal anymore like getting on a shunting station!

We have been asked to send at letter to VIA about how much we enjoyed the trip and what we feel it does for Canadian arts and culture etc. It may help convince them to do this all again in the future.

Since I was very skeptical about this whole ToT event, I have to say that VIA Rail and Green Couch DID listen to some of my concerns, and with one real exception, none of the fears I had about the conflicts between the regular passengers ("the innocents") came to be.  I was wrong, and so happy I was.  VIA Rail and Green Couch can only be proud of this amazing event.

@Erin - I spent a lot of time talking to the VIA Rail rep, and there is hope to do it again.  But the only way it makes sense is from Van to Toronto to NxNE.

@Erin - This was the first time anyone had tried this.  Since I believe that VIA provided return transportation, a band could just as well get a trip to Vancouver, and then ToT-2 on the way back!  It has been talked about!

The thing about the Wintersleep album is they just went for it - flashy, lush and literally all the bells and whistles. I think it's pretty sweet. 

BUT...if HMV across the street keeps blaring it EVERY DAY, I'm going to get sick of it.

I think one of the things that made it so great was that all the bands were from "the west"

Not to say an array of bands wouldn't be great, but with the exception of Chris Ho, all the bands had worked with Green Couch before, and a lot of the bands knew each other and were already great friends; there was already a level of camaraderie going on board. Can you imagine what would have happened if there was a personality clash between some of the bands??

@garjoh - Point taken. But don't they have a 'shuffle' option? Why the same music all the time. Is there some sort of lock that promoters can get on the speakers at HMV?

@ Garfield: that's the problem. I'm not sure I want to. Certainly don't want to add more, but still. it's a problem.

a) Rose Cousins because she has managed to create an album that makes me think of cuddling up with a cozy blanket on a december night with a glass of red wine. so sad and beautiful

and b) Treasa Levasseur because her music sounds like sunshine even though some of it's sad, it's soulful and angry and bloody WONDERFUL and as a hardcore acoustic 'folk/roots' fan, it's a nice change in pace :)

Family reunion a couple of summers ago, west coast and east coast cousins met as adults for the first time.  East coasters all said bar like rebby - plus the 'bar was in the barn.'  Hilarity ensued (for west coast cousins.  East coasters reacted kind of like rebby).

I'm regularly asked if I'm from Toronto due to my accent (and demeanor? :S) but the illusion falls apart when I say bar/car/card/garage/etc.

@kj - i think people out here on the prairies talk funny. ( I constantly get called a Newfie out here, drives me nuts but I smile politely and gently correct them)

I find folks in the UP (Upper Peninsula of Michigan) sound a lot like Cape Bretoners...

I was at a party Monday night held by some folks from New Brunswick...Tour = Tore for them.

I'm firmly in the "too-er" camp, though I think the "er" implies that I stress that syllable. I don't. I don't subscribe to the "pronounce "ou" as if it were "owe"" fanclub that is the maritimes, but predominantly mainland Nova Scotia.

man, I love the way east coasters sound. immediately makes me feel at ease :) actually in parts of the Ottawa Valley (near like Perth and Arnprior) they sound a little bit like east coasters (i.e. Arnprior aka 'Arnprir') I love listening to Rebbey's accent :)

Oh! I almost forgot about the next level PB Foldy. If your feeling luxourious (sp?), go for the Bolgny Foldy!

Acadian French is supposedly very close to non-Parisian French of old. Quebec French is the next closest thing. France succumbed to Paris' influence (so I'm told) but the further you were in the woods on the other side of the world the less of an influence there was, so they kept their accent. But then the Acadians started the dalliance with Maritime English and then now it makes no sense, but if you get them talking pure French it's supposedly the old way.
