Seriously though, as much as we gripe I don't think very much has changed beyond the look of the site. The genre streams are nice too, but I don't consider that to be R3.

Its not a google+ thing.  Its been around for a lot time in various forum-type interfaces.  I am guessing google+ just also used it, perhaps more frequently. (I don't know, I never used it).

The origins of +1 come from role playing games (RPGs) where skills and abilities are rated numerically. As you play more, you gain experience or skill in an aspect of the game and your skill rating will increase by one point. So if you killed a bunch of crazy dragons in a Final Fantasy game with your sword, your attack skill would eventually increase by one. So nerds that played a lot of RPGs often refer to increasing skills in other things as +1. Eventually the use started to shift to refer to adding yourself to the list of people who agree with a previous statement (as is the case in the blog today).

@Zammy -- that reminds me of a math question on a "Math Contest" question I answered years and years ago in high school:

     ((a-x)(b-x)(c-x)...(y-x)(z-x)) = ?

At one point, you have (x-x) in that series, which equals zero, which means you're multiplying the whole thing by zero at one point; therefore the final answer is zero.  I thought it was clever and, for whatever reason, it's stuck with me.

Listening to #R3 hasn't changed much, using CBCMusic is sometimes aggrivating -  there's a lot of content thrown at the wall & made to stick without much forthought. It's as if CBCMusic believes that we all just discovered ears yesterday & should listen to ALL THE THINGS! The search feature is also kind of broken, making band discovery a chore. The Radio3 website used to make it easier for music discovery because it wasn't trying to serve you "beyond the ear" products first. TL;DR: I'm here for the listen-ies not the read-ie word-ies.

Post-grad bender was a major success; saw family and then went to see my friends' bluegrass band play with another good friend. We had sweet potato fries, demanded to hear some Gillian Welch and drank way too much. It was WONDERFUL.

Hello, glad to be joining the "Vish Happy Hour". Free drinks for everyone.

I wanted to post something in the "What'cha Readin" blog, but comments were closed.

So I will say it here. I am still reading the Bob Dylan book, and enjoying it immensely, although I had no idea what a dick Dylan was to his friends at the height of his popularity. Will there be any discussion, or did I miss it.

Also, I will miss the Book Club, I enjoyed the challenge of reading and discussing new literature. Kudos to you Vish for this, I hope it can be continued some time in the future.

I hope we will also get a further chance to interact with you as a host. I enjoy your wit, musical knowledge and the way you allow us to be part of your show.

I wouldn't worry about the crows; they couldn't even scare off a raccoon that was in my yard last week. Although they did try for about two effin' hours.

@smallie - It's definitely weird that a bird can be so smart, but after watching that doc. I posted up there I have a whole new appreciation for the birds. Also, they need to have fun too, right? Let em' play!!

I got divebombed by a crow the other week when I was running.  Yes, I was wearing a ponytail*.  Living proof that this is true!

@tea - the woodpecker is declaring its territory.  The louder they can hammer, the better - as a show of strenght.  This is why they do it on metal objects.  I'm sorry for you...

So many changes, some good, like music.cbc.ca, others like losing the radio hosts whom we share much of our day, leaving, are not so good. But I don't have to tell you about that!!!

The R3 NXNE picnic was a blast, bigger and better than ever. Only you were missing. You should have brought Levon and Michelle, it was a beautiful time.

I like the Waxbills!  they've been a great R3 discovery for me lately, speaking of.  

It is hard for me to find things on the cbc music site these days.  I'm not exactly the brightest bulb on the tree though...but I do struggle with the site, in fact I would never stumble onto Vish's blog posts if it wasn't for him tweeting them.  Also, seems like a lot more bugs occur these days.  You won't hear me complain, as an American, I'm just happy to still be able to get the R3 feed!

@Steph 336 - Lind is back with the Blue Jays. He was in a pinch hitting role last night, but could be back in the regular rotation tonight. He tore it up in AAA and they brought him back.

@laurita - grant has a show on Radio 1 all summer called The Wild Side. It's on Tuesday at 11:30am (everywhere - not live) and on Friday nights at some point. He'll be back at Radio 3 in the fall I think... Apparently The WIld Side will be podcasted which is awesome cause I can't listen to it at work!
