National Aboriginal Day is as good an excuse as any to introduce you to some of the great Canadian musicians here on CBC Music.

Born of an Inuk mother and a Newfoundlander father, Elisapie Isaac was adopted at birth by an Inuit family and raised in the northern Quebec community of Salluit, Nunavik. She is an accomplished broadcaster and documentary filmmaker, and her previous band, Taima, won the Juno Award for Aboriginal recording of the year in 2005.

listenIn 2010, Isaac released her first solo album, There Will Be Stars, and the track "" spent several weeks on our top 30 indie music chart, The R3-30. Press the "play" button to hear the track.

Take a listen, but you might struggle at first to understand Isaac's lyrics. That's because she sings in a blend of English, French and Inuktitut, seamlessly bringing together traditional and pop sounds.
