Hey Lana, it's been awhile. I went to TO for NXNE and met up with various R3'ers. I was thinking if you were going to be there but you weren't (boo-hoo).I can't wait to hear you for this coming Sunday on The Strombo Show. :)

I met Mike Carver (Drummer from Milks & Rectangles) at NXNE over the weekend.  What a nice guy, and he lent me a pair of earplugs before the Danks went on at the Dakota on Friday night.  Mike if you are listening I need your address if you want these earplugs back!

This weekend I saw a lot of great local music. Saw Les Jupes on Friday. And on Saturday I went to the free kick-off weekend show for the Winnipeg Jazz Fest and saw the Liptonians and Royal Canoe. A great weekend!

had a glorious weekend rehearsing for a show/working during the days, and then seeing friends and going to wonderful fringe shows and walking around beautiful montreal in the evenings! had a cook-a-thon with friends on friday night too, homemade sweet potato burritos and key lime pie. so, freaking good.

@ Smallie: I am also super jealous of your banff concert; my monies are all going to PEI (poor baby). that sounds absolutely wonderful!

@ Lana-I second that Shred Kelly request for 'I Hate Work', but I would also settle for 'Harbour Boys' by Joel Plaskett if you've got it! something upbeat and awesome for this beautiful beautiful weather :)

My weekend was lovely. I went to see Zachary Lucky, Snailhouse, and Bry Webb on Saturday night at The Artful Dodger and then watched an embarrassing amount of episodes of The Wire yesterday. It was awesome!

Oh... I also tried to go see Sidney York on Friday night at OHanlons, but apparently they opened the show and I missed her. Oops.

Hey blog, glad you're working now!

On Friday I saw The Wooden Sky, Great Bloomers and Dusted play at The Burroughs in Toronto. Incredibly beautiful venue! The guys from Yukon Blonde showed up and WS, GB & YB did a 3 band 8 song cover set. It was the most fun.

Request: The weekly R3 email tells me there's a new Wooden Sky song up, are you able to play it? I'm Your Man. 

52, crud, Michael, I thought we could actually blame Craig for something! Sigh...

Glad you guys got to it; computer and electronic interbehaviours have everything to do with gremlins, I say.

@alsace: really well! I was REALLY sleepy the next day, had to drive back that night and got into Ottawa at about 4 am? It was wonderful to see/meet a few people from the blog. It was a really supportive show - my parents and brother were there, some friends from high school, and my blog friends :) I am always surprised by how supportive and encouraging people are of the band, I really feel fortunate.Do not worry there will be other times! We start our tour Saturday!

I talked to my dad this weekend, but last weekend he told me a story that he was almost lost at sea! (His kayak capsized in Lake Superior and the current wouldn't let him back in.  He was resuced by a friendly neighbour with a boat.  I think his next birthday present will be kayak lessons and an outrigger for his kayak...)

laurita, at a guess, that's a guy who now has an establishment in Wakefield; a small restaurant if I'm not mistaken.

I know that same story from people at the Black Sheep and from Stubbe (I and the main people there are on friendly terms).

I consider Stubbe chocolate to be food, in addition to an extremely delicious treat. And I don't think that that is bee-ess either.

Have to go get a few things, among others money. Mine is mostly a cash economy.

@ Erinev-you DID??? god. I really, REALLY wish I was there instead of sitting at home that weekend because no one was around to do anything. that sounds so lovely. you have strengthened my resolved to bring my guitar there too and drive my folks nuts! 

Re-article: this is really good, Carlyg! It was utterly fascinating. I really appreciated it a LOT, artist rights are generally not in good standing these days across the board; glad someone's wakin' up to that!

aww man. the path to summer playlist never did run smooth. got an email saying my song choice got chosen, then the song didn't make it because I got a last-minute email saying it was actually a different song that I suggested (needed to write a new description) and that my photo needed to be reformatted. no time to do those things before the deadline...and here we are. *sigh* ah, well.

@Laurita - I don't know that film but will check out for sure. I was at TIFF for her "Beautiful Kate". It's a wonderful film. A tough watch with stunning performances & worth the payoff. I still can't figure out how awards weren't thrown at Bryan Brown left & right. except it got terrible promotion here (ignore any decscription that refers to Romeo & Juliet. so so wrong.)

@ Flagpole: it was a play actually, not a film. which means you need to come visit in Montreal and come see it! it's only 10 bucks for students, seniors and teachers :)

@ laurita # 344 just saw shred kelley a few weeks ago; powerhouse fun!  had to leave before they played i hate work because i had to work early the next morning ... how ironic!

@zoot - I just caught up & other peeps probably explained but Mariposa is in  Orillia in Tudhope Park. Great lake for swimming there. just changin my pic back to me, Dawn, Moniski having a swim with Casey & Chris L. & photog Trevor Weeks.

I won't be there this year but it is a good fest. They ahve good camping options & if you're willing to volunteer you can get free tix. tho their weekend passes are pretty reasonible. Billy Bragg will be crazy up there. Friday nights main stage are usually the R3 heavy night. tho, they haven't sorted out they need to get one of the R3 hosts up for it.

laurita.snow: Musically it's bluegrass Flogging Molly (Basically), personally they are the most fun group of people I've ever met. On the already fun train they kicked the whole thing up 5 notches when they got onboard in Edmonton.

@laurita - yeah but airfare from Los Angeles is a wee bit more than $10.  I've got to worry more about where I'll be living in 12 days first:)

lol-that was hilarious but not my intention at all. I have to be honest that he qualifies as aging gracefully for me & if anything is more interesting with laugh lines & grey hair than most guys half his age. Give me him or Alan Rickman or Jim Cuddy over Brad Pitt any day.

More about Shred Kelly - They also had some really beautiful non-upbeat-bluegrassy songs too. They're a little hard to describe, but I was won over instantly.

Tie-in: Nena and Kelley, the two daughters of Paul Symes, the guy at the Black Sheep Inn, spent a season or more in Fernie. Skiing. Skibumming. Whatever.

They're the ones who got Paul to put on Shred Kelly. Twice now at least.

@ Soop-oh man, really?? I have *such* a love for melancholy songs. I have been accused of never listening to happy music ever (this was before the discovery of BROOD and Shred Kelly). So to heard that this amazing band also plays slower, sadder songs... well that is a level of appreciation that the english language cannot adequately describe.
