Also, who likes ironing? I like ironing.  I remember being a kid and watching my dad iron his shirts every day before going to work.  Something about that stuck with me, and I always get a good feeling when I'm preparing my clothes, like it's a grown-up thing to do.  I feel like I'm respecting the clothes, which makes me more confident, enabling me to be the funkadelic individual that you all know and love.

@laurita- I always love when the fast food places advertise "Free Uniform" as one of the perks of the job.  Because what everyone needs in their closet is some grease-stained polyester to make the night a true success.

I am with you Lana! I always wish I could wear dresses at work and look nice, and then the morning rolls around, and I have no desire to put any effort into my wardrobe. I pull the un-ironed pants and shirt from the laundry basket (that I washed a four days ago and haven't put away yet), and drag them on the floor down the hall to the bathroom, accidentally catch them in the door, before tossing them in a heap of cat hair on the bathroom floor.

I wasn't built to be classy.

I had to pay for my uniform for the brief 2 weeks I worked at Harvey's. I quit when they accused me of stealing 20 bucks from the till and demanded I pay it back.

@zoot Must be recently? I guess I haven't been listening enough! They recorded a newer version, but I actually prefer the older version with different background vocals.

I get pretty in to dressing up nicely for an event--say a wedding or a formal party. I'll break out a nice tie, three piece suit, shine the shoes and make sure everything is pressed, neat and tidy. Of course, when I started working in an office it was kind of exciting to dress formally on a daily basis. That novelty disappeared...really quickly. I went from full suit with tie, to suit minus tie, to dress pants and dress shirt tucked in...and near the end I'm pretty sure I was just a small step ahead of one of those barrels held up by suspender straps. 

Currently in a "business casual" environment...where most people emphasize the casual bit...and that's fine with me, as I'm currently wearing grey jeans (which I like to pass off as dressy-ish pants) and vans. VANS! 

@Chopz: hope you had a wicked trip!

Request @Lana: do you have "Almost Summer" by Jason Collett in the system? I try to request that one every now and then. If not, how about "The Bleeding Heart Show" by the New Pornographers? If not that, then "There Are Maybe 10 or 12" by A.C. Newman. If you have alternate versions of any of these tracks that would be just super. Please and thank you AND good morning!  

@ Zoot - It was amazing!!!! They had one of the best bands that I have ever seen backing them up, The Delirians! So good!!!!! The Pioneers were on point with the vocals and worked the crowd beautifully! I'm going back in september to see Ken Boothe!

Does anyone use a steamer instead of an iron? I just switched. Not as effective for heavy items but pretty great for shirts, some suits, etc.

I WISH I could wear dresses or even nicer shirts to work. I work at a retail store where people bring their dogs in all the time. Read: dogs jumping, slobbering, humping, barking. biting at you all the time. 

so it's a pretty 'jeans-and-t-shirts' environment, sadly. although no baseball cap necessary, for which I am eternally grateful. eternally.

@ wapuche Re: 'free uniforms': I KNOW RIGHT?? The bottoms of the pants I bought for the job were ragged by the end. It looked like a shark had been nibbling on my ankles. I also was addressed as a boy several times due to the largeness of the polo and hat. sooper dooper attractive.

Work Attire: I work with teenage boys. Therefore I have a pretty strict dresscode. 

The only thing that bothers me is that I can't wear shorts (unless they go to my knees). It sucks when it's SO HUMID outside.

Okay so just found out a dear, dear friend/musician is playing on Friday night, at the same time of another show that I REALLY want to see! I've seen my friend (and played with her) SO many times over the years, but I somehow feel obligated to go to show support. I'm torn because I don't want to miss KIM CHURCHILL at the Gladstone!!! He is AMAZING! *

WHAT SHOULD I DO? Am I a bad friend if I don't go to her show? Dont think she even knows I'm planning to be at NxNE.

@steph - I saw Ben Caplan at CMW. He was so so great in concert, but I got the album when I came home and was a little disappointed. There are a few great tracks on it, but overall, I didn't love it.

@ Kid: that's a lovely part of town; a friend of mine used to live near there! Make sure you go to the open mic night at Brutopia brew pub downtown. It's every sunday at 10 PM ish, and it's this huge established thing among the locals. People are pretty damn good there, and the food and beer and company are good to boot! I'm sure there will be people around who can hook you up with bands and other musicians there :)
