Did you play an instrument growing up? Maybe you took some piano lessons, maybe you played the recorder along with your Grade 5 class in school.

In music, everyone has to start somewhere — and that includes your favourite musicians!

To celebrate Music Monday, an annual event that recognizes the importance of music education, we asked some famous Canadian musicians what their first instruments were, why they chose them and how those instruments shaped them and their careers as musicians.

Oh, and we also asked for photos. They are really, really, really cute. You've been warned.
