Welcome to Shift, where Tom Allen takes you on a daily musical journey from the stalwarts of Classical music to the cutting edge of Contemporary tunes. Join us here on CBC music for a round-up of the stories of the day, some videos of music (or maybe just videos interesting to music fans) and a place to speak your voice.

From now on you'll be able to stream SHIFT at your convenience in its entirety. Click on the AUDIO tab on this blog to listen.

You can follow the Gryphon Trio as they adventure through the far north. The talented group of classical musicians are also avidly blogging about their time in the Northwest Territories. Join them as they trade black ties for woolen socks, and try out dogs for a mode of transport.

It's almost the season for yard sales. You inevitably get your choice of small items for cheap cost, or potentially you could ask for a whole box of the small things for even cheaper. But what if that box was super-sized? One Winnipeg man is selling it all: his house, business, boat, maybe even his dog. Apparently the stress of it all has become too much, and he plans to move to Mexico. The odd part is his plan to buy a small all-inclusive resort. Sounds a bit stressful. Maybe he's been listening to Sarah Slean.

As a disclaimer, this video is an ad. But it's still a video that displays how all of the orange juice from Florida makes its way north. The "Juice Train" travels all the way to New Jersey, and you can follow the entire trip. It's a 48 hour trip condensed into under 200 seconds.

Why do we like to cry so much at movies? Turns out there is a completely logical explanation for it all. So don't worry when you cry at Les Miserables. You were supposed to.
