When you’re an influential musician, people tend to ask you what you’ve been listening to lately. Here at 5 for 20, we’re just as keen to find out what records loom large in our favourite artists’ memory banks. So, we’re asking folks for their top five records of the last 20 years.

This week we hear from acclaimed pop songstress Hannah Georgas, who is in the midst of touring North America in support of her 2012 self-titled LP. The Vancouver artist has been known to tap into deep emotions to write her spirited songs of hope and love. As such, Georgas seemed like a perfect candidate to join us for a Love Month/Valentine’s Day edition of 5 for 20, and things are about to get personal.

“I'm excited to share with you some very memorable love songs that I've listened to over the years,” she explains. “I still get all warm and fuzzy whenever I hear them. Songs that evoke first love butterflies to slow dancing in high school to creepy celebrity crushes. Enjoy!”

Anything for Love” by Meatloaf (1993)

“This is one of my mom's favourite songs of all time and I must say I do have a soft spot for Meatloaf. This song is the anthem for love.”

By Your Side” by Sade (2000)

“I was introduced to Sade around the time of my very first serious-ish relationship. This song is perfect for a good slow dance and some smooching. Sade's voice is so soothing.”

House of Cards” by Radiohead (2007)

“This is one of my favourite love songs that have come out in the past 10 years. I can say I've listened to this song an unhealthy amount of times. In Rainbows is a great make-out record FYI.”

#1 Crush” by Garbage (1996)

“The Romeo + Juliet soundtrack is one of my favourite movie soundtracks of all time. I was obsessed with Leo DiCaprio and would listen to this song all day and think about him. I know, mega creepy.”

To Sheila” by the Smashing Pumpkins (1998)

“Not gonna lie, I wanted to lose my virginity to this song. Still waiting for the day to come.”

See Hannah Georgas on tour across North America right now. Sing her a sweet song, OK?
