To celebrate Guitar Month on Radio 2 Drive we’re looking for the best guitar riff ever. This means the meanest, nastiest, saddest, happiest, sexiest, most communicative riff played on guitar in the history of time; from Jimi Hendrix’s "Purple Haze" to the Beatles’ "Day Tripper" to unforgettable, totally rocking interludes of your own yesteryear. These are the riffs that can always get you to squish your face into the fevered pose of the dirtiest air guitar.
Now is the time for you to weigh in. Vote on behalf of your teenage self. Vote on behalf of the self who plays a song just for the riff. Vote with your heart and vote with your skilled guitar-loving ear. By Friday you will help whittle down this list of forty guitar riffs to just eight. From there, an epic battle of wah wahs and throaty moans will begin. They’ll be pitted against each other in daily riff-duels, and on the final day of November one riff will stand alone. It will be the best guitar riff ever.
Here are your forty contenders.
