Taylor Swift plays cultural dance tourist in her new video for "Shake It Off."

At first, the video's kind of fun as Swift journeys through ballet, breaking and contemporary dance, all the while flipping the lyrical middle finger to "the haters."

But then she has to go and jump aboard the Miley Cyrus/Katy Perry ongoing train wreck that is tone-deaf objectification and appropriation with a foray into twerking, complete with Swift and her stylist's interpretation of what black women who twerk wear: heavy, thick gold jewelry, booty shorts and an animal print crop jacket.

Take a look and tell us what you think:

Looks like a light-hearted farce to me. No harm no foul.

You guys are really looking for it eh? This music video was harmless, if on mute. The most offensive thing Taylor does here is deviate so thoroughly from her country roots. Slow news day.

Ms. Warner is the one missing the mark.   Go look up the meaning of satire.   Anyway, the song is pretty terrible with an admirable message.  The video is cute but dull - it looks like they hired the old iPod commercial creators and tried to make something edgy.  The song, the video and this article are a complete waste of time.

I don't really think that's what they meant, and I don't see it that way (IMO). If anything I see it looking like 90's dance video style...I mean...did you SEE those kneepads?

My main problem is that I can't get over how much it sounds like Arkell's Whoo-WHoo-WHOO's in the chorus...almost like they sampled it! Bigger problem...I keep humming this.

I thought she was a country artist?

What's wrong with a bit of fun and spoofing around? You are trying to make a story out of nothing.

Apparently, parody and satire are lost on some.

And then along comes the Nicki Minaj Anaconda video which basically proves the point that Swift was trying to make.  Hilarity ensues....

Seems like a nice girl whose heart is in the right place. Just too bad about her singing.

Seems harmless to me, are you guys trying to create issues where there are none? Oh, the media today.

Instigators!

I love this video! It makes me smile and brightens my day!! Taylor is having fun, and making fun. People just seem to be looking for something to bring her down - I think she is a breath of fresh air that is needed in today's stress-filled world. Great for a "girls' night" of any age!!

Not a Taylor Swift fan but I would say this video on mute plays out like a parody. Her movements look so unnatural it is hard to be offended.

This article is a huge flop. Taylor Swift is mocked by social media for her inability to dance all the time. Run an image search to see snaps of her moving like a mere mortal at someone's wedding or night club. She can sing and write music that sells, oh and she is gorgeous and young. BUT she can't twerk, do the Dougie, Cha Cha slide or salsa.

What does this video say? That she knows she can't dance and doesn't care or try to hide the fact. The video showcases amazing dancers and is fun to watch. As for Ms. Perry, that's a different video production machine all together.

Shame on you Andrea. This video is just fun and you made it into an issue. This article is just plain nonsense.

Gotta admit, I do have the TS -What's she doing now? syndrome. That's why I clicked into this read.  I do have a question for Andrea Warner:  Do u consider yourself part of the 1%, whom spend a lot of time, surfing the entertainment sites on your PC?  Erstwhile...sitting a lot?   "Shake It UP"   Great title for a great little satirically fun, Taylor - I can't dance quip.  Seriously, darling have u missed two other greats, the likes of Beyoncé's', "Flash Workout" or Michelle Obama's, "Let's Move" video campaign to help stem the tide of child obesity?  Swift hit her target market--from teeny-bopper to classic, I got all the moves mature adult. I'm 62yrs, a product of the Summer of '69--and I get it!  Perhaps if the title where a tad different, maybe u can re-review this TS music video somewhat more open mindedly. Let see, how's bout,  Shake It Up...Shake it Down...Shake it In & Out...Shake It All About.  Or Shake, Rattle and Roll--With the Flow.  AWHA,   janeE aka, jerks
