I am specifically thinking of Robert Smith of The Cure.  I really think there is a time in ones life where a 'look'/style should be retired.  He must be in his 50s now and how long can he carry off the teased, messy hair with pancake make-up, lipstick that runs over the lip line and frankenstein boots?  I think it really must be difficult for musicians who have created a persona to let go of it as they age.
