When Sam Roberts Band hit the studio to record their latest album, Lo-Fantasy, their producer, Youth, demanded that the band be able to play the songs live — and that the record would be made as a live band.

At first the band fought the idea, but Youth is a strong-willed producer with a resumé that includes U2 and Guns N' Roses; he wasn't about to take no for an answer. The risk paid off, as Lo-Fantasy is without a doubt the strongest Sam Roberts Band release to date.

Sam Roberts Band gave 30 lucky fans a live-off-the-floor sneak preview of the album in this special session for CBC Music. As you can see and hear, the band is tight. A nice byproduct of Youth's insistence they record live.
