The Polaris Music Prize short list has been announced, and it's a varied group with a mix of previous nominees and some relative newcomers.

Young Galaxy, Ultramarine

This marks the third time Metric has made it to the short list. It is Young Galaxy's third long list nomination, but their first leap onto the short list. There are also three debut full-length albums on the list, from Ibrahim, METZ and Purity Ring.

The Polaris Music Prize is awarded by jury to the best Canadian album each year without regards to sales, label or music genre. The winner will be announced at an awards gala on Monday, Sept. 23, in Toronto.
