Funny: in a morning traffic report, the other day, the guy said there had been wild turkeys spotted in Orléans (East end Ottawa) and in Kanata (West), adding: "Ottawa's surrounded by turkeys!"

Made me laugh.

Seriously, farmers and urbanites alike are going to be bitching so much in the next few years: virtually without competition and predators, the turkeys are multiplying like rabbits. Quite a few now = many many many in three years...

Lana, the problem: most people will have trouble figuring out how to get the bird into their pans without using firepower, illegal in cities, and heavily restricted as to season anyway.

Besides, cityfolk like their turkeys clean, without blood, and on a wrapped foam tray.

Turkeys (again), getting used to (them; not you)

T. real shy when it, sometimes they, come around to partake in overflow of nummy oily sunflower seed. At cottage in Laurentians, nothing much around.

My every appearance scares it or them up onto a tree branch. The same one.

One day, I was working the chainsaw not 30 yards below, for quite a while, and one t. was up there, feeding; when I came back up, it was so habituated to the racket (chainsaw, right?) that I was almost having trouble shooing it away!

This is what it says:

During what promises to be a thoroughly rockin' road trip, you'll have a chance to win a Fender guitar signed by every band and artist that crosses Grant's path on this epic voyage.

ENTER NOW: CBC Music's Road Trip Guitar Giveaway Contest

You'll also have a chance to meet Grant for brunch in several cities along the way. Details on both contests will be announced soon.

So for 7 years when any of my co-workers needed to talk to me, they used my full name.

It's increasingly frustrating to me each year how bloody late the Edmonton Folk Music Festival announces its lineup. I was very much on the fence between EFMF and Regina's festival given all the great things I've heard about the latter and the great crew that seems to show up. Then I found out that I get FREE tickets to the EFMF due to the location of my soon-to-be dwelling. WOOT! Still, drop the lineup already!

I've lived in the same Manhattan apartment for 23 years with my wife, an artist, and our teenage son. we have about 2500 books, probably 1000 LPs and CDs, art supplies, artwork, three guitars, three bicycles, and small closets. I don't think any of us are hoarders, not clinically anyway. We just have a lot of stuff, but not that much considering what we do. Also, when I got laid off from corporate publishing in 2009, I basically had to bring my work home. Co-existence is tough, but we try not to drive each other nuts.

@Steve: I'm surprised that a creative nickname didn't come in to play.

Some time ago I worked with a guy whose last name is Lingwood. For whatever reason, I started calling him Lingleberry. Later, I started calling him Dingleberry but when a third party asked what a dingleberry was on one occasion and I explained I suddenly felt like maybe it was not all that nice. So, I switched it up to Dingleman -- which struck us all as a fitting name for a bumbling, clumsy but well meaning goof.

The best part? That nickname was born over 3 years ago and I left that firm shortly after. It is still in use to this very day, even amongst some seemingly stodgy older folks. It's an odd legacy, but a legacy nonetheless.

@T&C - Actually, its just how things changed.  Rail is more important than ever and moves far more goods in tonnage.  But railroading is different, with long unit trains of grain, containers, coal.  The locals that served the little grain elevators in every town are gone - as are the elevators.   Much more efficient.  I guess its just, as you say, the natural progression.

I was living Korea and whenever we went out in Seoul I'd usually end up taking off on my own and not reappear until the next friends.  My friends decided that I was sneaking away to watch and gamble on Monkey knife fights (those don't exist there but my friends were drunk), and those friends have kept calling me that for years.  Well, sometimes it's MKF for short.

You all have a great weekend.  Now...I wonder if Grant'll be back live next week?  That asking too much?

I hoep we get to meet up again someday.  We are Vancouver bound some time in the next year for a family visit.  Hopefully we can catch up then.

Fictionjunkie - Thanks.  I'm very familiar with the drive up there, about  175 miles up the Feather River Canyon.  Probably driven it over 100 times, and that's no exaggeration.  Gorgeous part of California, and near and dear to me.  Going to be a late drive, as Peggy gets off at 4:30, and we will hit the road at 6, get there by 9:30-10.

nvp - Yeah, back when R3 had a "song of the day", I did the voice work for Losing California on my first visit to R3 in 2009.  Plus, I asked Patrick to play it when they were in San Francisco, and after the show he walked by me when I was talking to Jay and he shouted, "I played that song for you!"  :)

Okay, powering this down, but might check in when I get home.  If not, see you on Monday!
