Happy Tuesday!
HAPPY TUESDAY INDEED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I usually don’t participate in these popularity contests but I know one of the finalists, so I voted.
Go Ambre!
Good Morning!
sleepy morning, damn time change.
damn time change indeed, espresso instead of tea for me this week.
I stopped at Tim Horton's on my way to work and got a large coffee, my coworker just showed up with a large coffee for me.
If I start yelling everything soon, you know why.
@Steph - last day little missy?
@stevie - Cheah! :D
I seriously hope Banjo'clock is I Quit my Job by OML today.
@Steph - it really should be. You should get that played at least once per show today.
@daa - YES! I agree.
Also, STOKED FOR GUSTO TONIGHT. Seriously.
@Steph - I've never been in any restaurant that's gone in that place. Looking forward to it.
@daa - Yeah, me neither. Although, in my time in Old South there's only been one other, I think. That Cuban place? Was it Cuban? I think so.
@Steph - Yeah, something like that. It was something very similar before that too. I was surprised to see Relish closed, I thought people loved that place.
@daa - Yeah! That was very shocking to hear. Even that TV show went there that one time.
The music this morning has been wonderful. :)
OMG IS IT GONNA BE GAYEST OF SUNBEAMS!?!?!?!
@Steph - not quite...
Nope! Still good though.
Lana and I are clearly around the same age. November Rain! In black jeans, of course. Or maybe purple ones (the first time that was cool)
I totally remember telling a girl who asked me to dance that it wasn't a good idea because November Rain was too hard to dance to. We did eventually dance to it, the rock part was hard I think we just continued to slow dance the same awkward way.
Re:November Rain - we had a song like that when i was young, it's called Stairway to Heaven. You may have heard it before.
Hotel California falls into the same category of awkward slow-fast-dance
SO MUCH COFFEE.
Searchlight:
I have four favourites right now. It's hard to vote for just one!

Okay, back to worky work. Have a great last day, Steph!! Don't drink too much T-Hos and explode!
Ha ha, Steph, very well timed....
@dempstergirl - Wait.. why was it very well timed??
Look at the last sentence in #27!
@dempstergirl - Oh! Hahahaha! That's awesome. It's too late though.
@Steph - just say you're sick after lunch and go home early.
@steph - just try to pace'er for the rest of the day, there, hey?
("hey" is your new "eh" now that you are moving out west. Just easing you into it, hey?)
@daa - Good idea!! Too much coffee and sushi! Hahaha!
@dempstergirl - Is that what they say? I don't like it. I'm gonna stick with 'eh'!
Coffee and Sushi - Somethings just don't go together. Kinda like fish and ice cream.
I really don't like this Headphones song. Am I the only one?
Hmm but Fish and sour cream go together no? sour cream and ice cream are long lost cousins no?
@Steph - originally I didn't, but now I do.
@daa - Hmmm.. maybe that'll happen to me someday. I doubt it though. :(
We just announced our very own music festival!
@Pedro - I don't wanna talk about it. :(
Good morning! How are you all doing?
That being said...
I'm really stoked for CBC Music! It's so great that the site is doing so well after a year and that it's able to host it's own music festival! I'm just SUPER bummed that I'll be missing it.
@Wynnsie - I'm figuring you'll put ice cream on or in anything.
<3 Luke Lalonde.
morning lana banana
So much of this pop stuff lately. Time to switch steams
@Stevierayk - going to hammer some Mares of Thrace?
Re: Festival
Whoa! That's great!
As Steph said, it's awesome how well CBC Music is doing
(I would go if I weren't still camping that weekend. Balls.)
@Daa - Mares of Thrace, don't mind if I do thank you.
ahh! maybe i fail at internetting but i can't find that luke lalonde video for undone that lana got me mega curious about. anyone have a link?
THIS SONG!!!!! <3
(Baby I'm Your's - Cadence and Shad)
Hey Lanana! Harpy Tuesday.
I'll take a look at the 24 finalists and figure out who I should vote for. How perfect is it that the finals for a national contest is down to a two-four)
No OML?
AND NOW THIS SONG!!!!!! <3
(Gimme Sympathy - Elliot Brood)
NEVERMIND! Found it: http://music.cbc.ca/blogs/2013/3/Luke-Lalonde-premieres-sweetsad-Undone-video
Love this Michael Rault song!! (I say this every time. But it's true every time!)
WHY are all these bands coming to Winnipeg on the same night?
Stars with Said The Whale at the Garrick
Born Ruffians with The Elwins at the Park
Bend Sinister at the Windsor
When are you moving to Toronto, Ms Gay?
Shonica, that's terrible!!
@Shonica - You should probably just come to Calgary and see Born Ruffians and The Elwins with Left and me! :)
@shonica - PUB CRAWL!!!
I like music that makes me feel like a gypsy. Or at least a vagrant.
Re #66 - This here Tom Fun stuff, that is.
Searchlight - Close Talker!!
@StevieRayK - just catching up on the blog right now, but, as the kids say, you "won the internets" today with comment #24.
@flanneltom
how was the trip west?
RE:69 - In your face losers! I'm going to listen to We are the Champions.
For some reason I just had a flash back to the time I met Graham Wright at the TCP show here in London. I went up to the merch table and said "Hey Graham! I'm Steph Ramsahai from the Radio 3 blog!" and he replied with "I know!" and I got all flustered and blushy. Then he signed my copy of Champ and wrote "Real life!" Hahaha. Awww, so many London memories. :)
I can't believe this is happening.
Wapuche! You're back/here!
@tea and carto - Yuaap, it was good! Way too short though. I think I decided while walking around yesterday that I should probably move there. It's pretty all right. Now I'm back in the frozen barrens of Sask and at work today. It's -12ish and snowy.
Le sigh.
I think I will try to find out who is playing first at the Windsor there is a chance I could go to see The Elwins and Born Ruffians and still catch the second band at the Windsor! Stars and STW are playing in a venue that is not one of my favourites!
You're back/here.
Steph Ramsahai is leaving on a jet plane in TWO DAYS!
Can you contain yourself? Calgary looked snowy from the planestation last night but I heard a chinook is on the way, just in time for you.
Close Talker Talk
Dear Wapuche,
It's nice to see you here again!
@flannel tom - Yeah!!!!! So pumped. I can hardly sit still. There's not much left to do either, which is awesome. The day is flyin' too, which is also awesome! EVERYTHING IS AWESOME!!
Except this current song, not a fan. hahaha.
You guys I'm fucking exhausted today. I could blame the time change, but it was probably the fact that I got off the ice at 11 last night and then went and celebrated with a team mate who's wife had their first baby this weekend.
@Steph - do you have shoes?
@daa - Hahaha! Yeah, I have a couple pairs still. Just not fancy ones, so I can't dress up for Gusto. :(
@JD - but really you were celebrating a victory more, right? I mean, beer league rec hockey victory;s are probably bigger milestones than first children. Are they not?
SUSHI TIME!
CATCH YOU GUYS LATER!!
@Steph - Sushi it up!
Dear Shonica,
And to you. And to you.
@Steph -try the fish skin, you'll love it.
@steph - SUSHI! PLANES! MOVING!
knock 'em dead kiddo.
Lana, loving this undone song. and luke lalonde's ridiculously cute relationships in the video are making me very happy and bitter at the same time. oh emotions. anyway, thanks for bringing it up :D
@FT yeah, and this one was a nail biter - we got the go ahead goal with 26 seconds left, in a playoff game no less! So, 85% victory celebration, 15% brand new baby.
@lana- I'm stealing the name "Lovely Little Heartbreaker" for something. I haven't decided what, yet, but I thought it only fair to let you know.
Lana - I cried a lot yesterday. I cried at the ECMA All-stars song, and I watched an episode of The Big C on Netflix and lost my shit. Haha. Monday Blues?
Also, thanks for sharing that new City and Colour song. I love that man.
Good morning!
I am all excited this morning because I GET TO HANG OUT WITH HOLLERADO ON FRIDAY!!!!! (there was a contest on the local radio that we listen to in the car). You will all get how exciting this is (and know who I'm talking about since no one else had yet today at work).
Fictionjunkie - Sweet! You'll have to tell Raina too!
@kathyjean - "sweet" is exactly what I said ;) I will brag during every show I think!
@tea and cartogro - hey, do you know how to export/create a kmz file from an autocad dwg? I am going to figure it out eventually here but just in case you know how to do that off the top of your head, I figured I'd ask.
Wow, so my liking of Barack Obama tells the computer that I voted for Obama? Just amazing what computers can do these days.
@wapoochie - I voted for Curly Fries.
fictionjunkie - Haha, awesome! :) Have a blast.
@FT- It's your vote to throw away to the horsey sauce lobby.
i love curly fries
@ft
What software?
Curly fries with a Big Beef 'n Cheddar is ambrosia.
@tea - ACAD map 3d
@daa- Now you're just trying to sound smart. No one likes a show-off.
The worst is drunk liking on Facebook. I've liked things I would never like sober.
Don't knock it, Laura Beth. It's the only way some of us get liked at all.
@FT in AutiCAD Civil 3D 2011 I have an export to Google Earth button on my Output ribbon
@Wapuche, do you all of your likes come between the hours of 1-4am?
@FT You can also try syncing with LMNOP to get 5T metamicrodata to show up as usable code in the Dingus app.
@laura- You'd be amazed.
I don't use CAD too much but I had page 11 bookmarked
and this wiki too
AutoCAD - oh I had one of those but then the wheel fell off.
I just need to download an extension that does it all for me, my co-worker has it for Civil 3D, works the same in Map.
http://www.plexscape.com/services/plexearth/download.aspx?src=0
if you are interested
@FT/T&C I thought the GIS world looked down on CAD users like red haired step children?
#45 @stevie, that may or may not be true!
AutoCAD is the source of most of my 'how to...' google queries. The folder of bookmarks I have saved pertaining to it makes me wonder if I should be allowed to do my job.
i am so glad the CBC Music festival doesn't include either Mumford & Sons or Vampire Weekend. One or both of those bands seem to be at EVERY FESTIVAL this year.
Hey Guys! (And I mean that in the collective, not sexist sense).
I'm really excited about the CBC Music Festival, I've wondered out loud and on the blog before why Radio3 didn't have involvement or exposure at music festivals. Now it has happened. I hope it will be a great success.
Autodesk runs the world, Jon boy. ESRI is too expensive and in the survey world, everything is CAD. Map #D can honestly do pretty much everything that any ArcGIS thing can do. It's just not as user friendly.
@KoD maybe one (OR BOTH!?!?!?) will be the surprise headliner!
@jond
but so many people send me fucking sloppy .dwg files to deal with that I can't just shun it! CAD users are more like that weird aunt, that is really loopy, but makes awesome cookies.
(PS - I like Faunts, they remind me of DMST)
@Wapuche 112 - I'm hoping that's a joke because I'm laughing at it!
The real surprise is that Vampire Weekend and Mumford and Sons are actually the same band!
@126- That does explain why sales of the Dingus app have been slow lately.
wapuche
GASP!
@t and c - thanks for the hot tips!
@T&C haha - its not sloppy its just 90% information you don't need.
And they would have gotten away with it if it weren't for those meddling indie rock snobs.
well that was weird - I couldn't find Lana's post on the blog list!
@jon
What is the benefit of turning text to a path in a CAD world? And jacking all the strokes up to some ridiculous value?
Hehheh... jacking all the strokes up...
cicero,
i think that's cos it's a MERGABLERGH
Jacking up all the strokes sounds awfully dirty. Are you sure you are using Autocad and not Perv-bot software?
DARDARGHDARH!
So quick straw poll. Who is planning on attending the CBC Music Festival? Anyone, beside me?
"Path"
"Strokes"
I don't know what these words mean - I do know there are a couple of different types of text in the cad world, and I suspect its some weird software switching thing - I always try to use the very basic TEXT command when stuff is going to some GIS nerd professional because I think it normally converts.
A lot of the shit in CAD is dynamic and tied to scripts and shit. Well, it is if you use the parts of CAD that are supposed to make your life easier anyway.
@Kirk - UUuurgh. Normally I don't mind them, but that was a pain and a half trying to find it!
We're always stroke our paths here, but we do it with Illustrator.
@TheIceman, ME!
iceman,
unless someone wants to fly me out to toronto, i doubt it.
@TheIceman - I would but it's in Toronto, and I'm in Calgary. That's a pricey concert for me. :-(
Yaaa! That's one, but still a slightly underwhelming response.
check out the text in my profile pic.
can you explain it?
(I think it says Saskatchewan Ave)
There's only two people who live in Toronto, so that mught be why the response has been lacking.
@Ice - That's gonna be such a wicked line-up though! super jealous!
@iceman - sorry, too jaded for festivals
@theIceman - sadly not - I get home from Vegas the day before (home being BC). It's a great line up and the price is pretty fantastic. Rock out for the rest of us.
@Kirk and Cicero - Get Grant to pick you up on the way by. Surely he will be going.
@stevie
I do most of my stroking and massaging in Q or Illustrator.
@T&C - Okay if we're talking about stroking and massaging I believe we need Rebbie to join this conversation.
Dear TRH,
I have no idea but it's at the Garrick so maybe you didn't!
@SRK 151 - Why aren't the Kramdens playing the festival?!?
@Ice - It's also going on just before Sigur Ros, so I'll be in Vancouver at that point, chillin and seeing the sights and frolicking in the ocean!
@iceman - not sure. We're old could be the reason
@T&C that's either:
1) Some idiot with way too much time on their hands actually drawing text. Unless you got that from government, I can't imagine anyone would have time for that
B) Someone using a fancy font that doesn't convert properly when converting from .dwg to whatever
IV) An incorrectly clicked checkbox in the converting process.
Sometimes people do really stupid things with text in CAD, so I'm not surprised its a mess. Ask them to either export with the all of the text in the basic text format with the simlex font or to turn off the text layer and send you a pdf of the paths/whatever they're sending you with the text on it so that you can put the text in with your software.
re: 160 - I actually really think its IV) but I can't be sure.
Dear Iceman,
May 25 CBC Music fest, I cannot see it happening for us. We will be road tripping to Ontario in June for a family wedding and NxNE.
So is there a link to Graham's blog, or are we trapped in the detritus of the past?
I won't be in Ontario during the CBCMusicFest - wish I was though. I would go to that.
MAY LONG IN WHIPPENEGG!
I get stuff like that all the time, after waiting for weeks in the first place to get it.
I firmly believe all data monkeys should have a conversion crash course yearly. It would save a ton of time and effort on everyone's behalf.
@Wapuche - Mega blergger super blog
one blog, all day.
@stevieray- Gesundheit.
TRH, I think it might be The Elwins and Born Ruffians and maybe Bend Sinister at the Windsor depends on the start time and also who my concert buddy is that night ;-)
One man, one blog, one solution. This March, Wapuche IS Napoleon Shanks IN MergaBlerg IV: Total Blogstruction.
@Wapuche - wallow in the detritus my friend.
IS it just me or does this Uprooted song go on forever? (she types, as it ends).
FT, Where is Whippenegg?
I run the art dept. here. Do not get me started on normal humans and their inability to understand files, file types and the meaning of resolution.
Just so you know, this is pretty glorious.
Where do you work that there's an art department?
@cicybear- I'd wallow anywhere with you.
@T&C part of the problem is when people like me get in there and start fucking around in CAD. I'm not a draftsperson, so I don't give a shit what anything looks like, I just draw lines and design things then give all my work to one of the draftspeople to make it look good. Then they try to take things out and give them to people like you to put on a map somewhere, and its full of all this other shit that I used during design but nobody but me knows what the hell it is.
If you tell them what you need, that is always best. And its best if you get the most raw data you can to convert - so long as the data you get is only the data you need, not the data you need hidden in a bunch of other shit.
Your best bet is to almost always ask for a .dxf of polylines (or 3Dpolylines if you need elevations) with simple labels. Its not always easy to tease that out of people though.
@Wapuche - Aww, make a girl blush why don't you? Using my petname in public!
Also y'all! I just bought my plane ticket to see sigur ros!
@tea - A paper converting plant. We do a lot of flexographic printing.
(Halloo, megablerg.)
Dear TheRadioHead... you don't know if you have a Stars ticket? I do! So psyched. Stars are playing in Victoria which means ROAD TRIP for me and a friend. Sans kids. Oh thank the Stars I am looking forward to April 5.
G'day, eh?
What.....happened to rap/hiphop? When did they start rapping about being a real estate agent?
TRH, Have you been to the Windsor lately? If it says the doors are at 9 what time do you think things will get started? Will it like the Pyramid?
i've never been crazy about this Mac DeMarco song, but i liked it better when it didn't make me think of .. drum sticks.
#188 Oops! Will it be like the pyramid?
TRH, Doable for sure!
Anyone else notice that Hannah Georgas' "Somebody" starts with the same drum hits as Michael Jackson's "Wanna Be Startin' Something"?
TRH, The other reason I will not go to the Stars/Said the Whale it's an all ages show during March Break!
Said The Whale is opening for Stars in Victoria too... looking forward to seeing them live. Though Shonica you are worrying me. Oh hell, I've dealt with a Bieber concert, this can't possibly be that screamy, can it?
wapuche,
well, you know what you need to do. make a mashup called "Somebody Wanna Be Startin' Somthing?"
WAPUCHE IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
fresh ginger,
i don't know about victoria, but all ages STW shows in Vancouver are very screamy.
Did everyone get wind of this concert announcement, CBC Music's first-annual music fest?
@Sickday Lawrence - Pedro beat you to it man. Bloggers are currently compiling a list of people for you to pick up on your way across the country.
@kirk - Grey-Ham Wright! Whassup, dawg?
Oops, I totally did noit mean to address that last post to "@kirk"
but - @ kirk - How you doing? Your city is better than mine.
@JonDixon how did you know I might be driving across the country?
@freshginger/kirk - The Said the Whale show I went to wasn't really that scream-y (based on past experiences as the screamer at NKOTB and a non-screamer at Boyz II Men). It's at Alix Goolden, right? I don't find they have the best sound quality in there for rock shows but then again what do I know. You'll still have lots of fun :)
@tea and Carto - welp, I got that all figured out and now I have a new favourite thing.
@JD - or export linework only and just make sure all object data is attached and then you can label things after based on that, there's a label function, just throws em right up there. A little messy but it works.
@Kirk [#197] - I'm sure you (and everyone else) saw it, but you caught the NIN/Carly Rae mash-up from last week, right? It's awesome and terrifying at the same time.
@Grant - So did you and Jilly got nice and reacquainted this weekend?
Freshginger,
Sorry, but when there are three shows on the same night and they are playing in a pricey not so great venue, an all ages spring break show. It's just not going to be my first choice!
@Grant the blog knows sir, the blog knows...
tom, we generally don't like to brag, but yeah, it kinda is.
though today everyone is complaining about the rain. i am more sick about everyone complaining about the rain than the rain itself.
Eric, I saw it posted, but I never got around to listening to it. I think I was kinda afraid...
Hey Grant!!! how's things?!
@kirk - well thanks for the warning. I am not such a frequent concert-goer that I consider these things. Hope it doesn't turn off the friend I am dragging along. Any survival tips?
Speaking of concerts, I'm heading out to go see No Sinner tomorrow night, anyone in Calgary in?
Mike Small, bass player for the Meligrove Band is in the video for this Plaskett song.
@kirk - it was really cold and there is still millions of snow here... I was walking around in a hoody yesterday :(
@flannel tom are you in BC?
screamy: i went to see Said the Whale at the Port Moody arts fest, and Oh No Yoko "opened" for them (replacing Bodhi Jones)
Grant, he was here this weekend. Remember, you bailed on lunch with us?
Millions of snow, FT?
;)
Grant -- I saw the festival announcement, but as it is clear across the country it's not that (personally) exciting. Looks like it'll be quite the CBC showcase.
Shonica -- yeah, you have options and city savviness. I have neither.
Next weekend I'm going to whisk off the sunny Breezy Point, Minnesota for a corporate hockey tournament.
Its going to be tres fun!
@TRH - I would love that.
TRH, #223 Well I might go if that was the case!
Ahh, I would really love to thumbs-up this song, but I can't!
Of Monsters and Men is headlining with Sloan opening?
Sorry who?
No way you're getting another train festival happening in this country without the involvement and sponsorship of Mr. Ken Walker! Well, not unless you want to get the same rough treatment I gave to the comptroller of Sudbury when he said I couldn't buy mescaline on a Sunday.
Also, if anyone's looking for a review of the new Bowie Album, here's one!
Binsy, I have a Of Monsters And Men album I bought after hearing them being played at Music Trader!
@Shonica
How do they compare to Sloan?
(I think I already know the answer to that)
@grant - what Kirk said! Yeah, had a great time... was thinking of going to bug you at the cbc on Monday but found myself in Stanley Park instead!
@BFO - MILLIONS!
@flannel tom so are you still here?
Binsy,
They are from Iceland http://www.ofmonstersandmen.com
@kirkofdoom @flanneltom how can I "bail on lunch" if I find out about in 20 minutes before it actually happens?!
Of Monsters & Men is more like... Mumford & Sons meet Stars? Kinda? I am still not sure if I like them or not.
Grant,
It was in the facebook group that you complained about not being in and now that you are, never look at!
@kirk I don't know how to find that group!
Hmm . . . I see. Well, in my opinion, I'd have to admit tha . . .
SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooann!!!!!!
It was OVER AN HOUR before hand grant...you say your place is close enough to the city to get places still?
Kirk came in from New West!!!
Sooooo...tell them your real excuse(s).
@CMac not enough lead time!
@Grant I just sent you the link to it on FB... usually we talk mid-week, and generally we decide on brunch places around friday. but it depends...sometimes its sooner.
in Grant's defense... if someone told me about an event that was taking place in an hour, I wouldn't be able to make it either.
@Grant the text was over an hour ahead, but the lunch was decided a while before that... :p in the group...that i just -resent you the link to
(you can find that on the facebook front page on the left hand column anytime)
@CMac my life is the blog.
@freshginger thanks for backing me up! How did pig birthing go?!?
If someone told me that flannel tom was in town, but I had to get to a restaurant in 20 minutes, I would get there in 10!
It's really a matter of proper priorities.
#249 Binsy :- )
Gotta go walk a Yukon Blonde dog haha
I'm aboot 8 finalists in and so far Searchlight sounds pretty much like American/other countries Idol.
@grant - nope, I'm back in Saskie now. Had a great time in your lovely city and the village/mountain of Whistler. CMac, Kirk and Alex were out to lunch with us and it was great meeting them and shooting the breeze!
@Bins [249] - +1
Sloan loyalty aside, I will check out that link you put up. Thanks!
Thanks Binsy - 249 - May Long, I'll give you notice now.... :)
@grant - sorry about the lack of advance notice but I am a very fly by the seat of pants guy!
is this CBC festival in May?
it ended up pretty good, Grant... though she only had five piglets. It's a new sow, her first farrowing, so she gets a free pass on the low piglet count (this time). i was anxious for a while that something was going wrong and cut off my finger nails/soaped up to the elbows in case I had to "get involved". Thankfully that was not the case.
@flannel tom Re: May long
Duly noted.
Holy shit this is cool. Who knew corn starch was so alive?!?!
@Fresh Ginger - I didn't know you had a pig! Also, piglets are the cutest.
@freshginger five piglets sounds pretty good to me!
@jon - what's a Corporate hockey tourney? Suits & Ties VS Minions?
Did I just hear a line in this song that said "little junior baby loves tits"???????
I think I did.
@FT well its a bunch of the "sister companies" (ie firms that the mother company has bought up)
So each office and/or company puts in a team and then we all go and drink and play hockey in some little town (the past two years have been in Gimli Manitoba)
Cicero... I have a few pigs. Four actually, plus their offspring till they are sold for people to grow for dinner, or I grow for someone else's dinner. Which means that sometimes we have 10 or more pigs at different sizes.
Grant... they're supposed to have 12 minimum! If she has less next time, she's breakfast. Or so the theory goes. As yet I've not had to make that decision.
FT,
Yes, I heard it too!
@JonDixon that IS cool. especially if it's someone else's speaker.
Well, there's no denying that's true of little junior babies.
@JD
That was awesome.
@fresh ginger whoa! You are the Tony Soprano of farmers!
Ah corn starch and water slurry - it's dilantant therefore it's viscosity increases with an increase in shear rate.
Oh come on it's SNOWING! Enough already I am done with this now I hope this is going to stop soon!
From what I've heard so far the St. John's entry is way ahead. Like, Chicago Blackhawks ahead.
The sad reality is pigs need to pay for themselves, I can't afford 700 lb pets! That makes me Tony Sporano-esque? I may need to watch that show after all.
re: Corn Starch -- someone was reading a rather boring (by previous standards, IMO) xkcd What If...
Yellowknife is good too, but nothing especially distinctive.
Where in the world is Carmen San Diego?
@Shonica - I hear ya. snow, take a hike
MERGERBLERG!!!!!!!!!!
@Fresh ginger - wow! That's a lot of pigs!
steph is drunk
Steph is drunk on sushi
SUSHI!!!!!!!
GREEN TEA!!!!
I'M VERY FULL!!!!
@Steph - have checked out the Gusto menu?
The other day they plowed our back lane and created a wall of ice across everyone's driveway. I've been hacking away at our ice wall for days now and you still can't get a car in there.
This long drawn out period between winter fun and green grass is by far the worst time of year. I'll take -30 over this anyday.
This Ladyhawk song (which i love) has a very Time Bomb-esque opening I just noticed ....
@Grant - Please arrange to pickup Kirk and Cicero on your road trip across the country. You can do your shameless matchmaking.
@daa - I haven't! I will right meow.
24 finalists in Searchlight.
24 tributes from the 12 districts.
Interesting.
Is this secretly all leading up to a death match?
@steph - do so, looks good.
@TheIceman
You make it sound like he's going to stuff them into his truck.
@daa - it's so fancy!! I'm excited. VINO!!!
@binsy - I think it has more to do with 24 beers.
@flannel tom
There is definitely a drinking game in this.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm 24 beers.
That was supposed to say "trunk" not "truck."
@EricR I was reading that What If from xkcd. And I agree, way less interesting than any previous ones.
@binsy interesting analogy.
@binsy... "chipping away at a wall of ice"... makes the soggy situation out my office window much more bearable. Here's hoping the thaw happens fast. (or is that bad cuz it causes flooding?)
@TheIceman re #289 Backseat Sweethearts?!? Gonna have to keep wiping the steam off the rear view mirror eh?! Whoo!
@fresh ginger
It's all bad for the next six weeks or so, then there's flooding . . .
This is the time of year I usually head to the coast.
Binsy, I was thinking of you when I read this in the paper this morning!
YES!
Everyone look at the pictures in that link! That is what Winnipeg is like for the next few weeks!
I laughed hard. It looks like someone's making fun of Winnipeg, but it's real!
Going to grab lunch. Scrubway today I think. Uninspired... but cheap!
Kelowna's entry also good. Brood-esque.
Still laughing.
@binsy I'm listening to all 24 Searchlight national finalists (again) right now as well. All over the map! Literally!
fresh @ 276, you said it, and right it is: if you kill them or sell them, you're a pig farmer, if not, you're a pet owner.
I looked at the pictures in that link. Is that unusual? That is what my street in Regina, also called Minto btw, is like every winter all the time. It is quite annoying.
@Grant
What's next. Top 10?
@binsy next Monday is top 16.
It looks to me like some of your favourites didn't make this cut. Is that so?
Montreal's entry is not really my thing, but I can see it making a good run.
Hey gang, what a 6 days this has been...DO NOT get a stomach virus...ugh
How was Thomas the Flannel Trains visit to Vancouver?!?!?
@GRANT
YOU'RE SICK ON MY LAST DAY!
THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!
Regina!
Close Talker! This might be the one.
@iamrobsmith -quit drinking from the river.
It gets pretty discouraging when nobody you vote for made it this far. Sigh...I have started checking out the national finalists and hope my vote will count for something.
Close Talker are from Saskatoon I believe, but I did like what I heard.
@darbar
What do you think of your hometown entry?
I just finished all 24 with them at the very end and they were my favourite.
Nevermind. Me too.
@darbs - yeahy, plowing of the streets is a foreign concept in Regina. So annoying. I can't see around corners on the streets they do plow and the ones they don't, the ruts are so deep my car scrapes them!!!
I can feel good aboot getting behind Saskatoon.
@Rob - T'was great! I guess a pukey stomach limited your lunching abilities?
# 320 Darbar,
I feel the same but I did listen to Close Taker link Kathy Jean posted earlier and I liked it.
@binsy, 325 - that's what she said.... or something. You know what I'm getting at. Mind in the gutter....
@Tom - I know! It is ridiculous. I get even more annoyed when they plow the alley and put that snow out on the street as well. Ugh. Some of those ruts are not just annoying but dangerous.
@Tom yeah Mexican was about the last thing that was staying down.
What did you get up to?
My street only gets plowed once or twice a year, then its a real pain in the ass because there is an 8 inch drop from my driveway to the street and I have to rebuld snow ramps (I don't shovel my driveway)
But the scrape the road down and pile it up in the middle then come back 2-3 days later and scoop it up into trucks and bring it to the snow dump.
Okay bitch time. I love No Sinner, and I also love this song, but I would dearly love to hear other songs from them.
10-4
@Rob - Whistler and snowboarding, eating and drinking, walking and exploring.... that's pretty much it. It was way too short of a trip but just long enough that I got a taste and now I want more! (Plus the women in Vancouver are beautiful, that doesn't hurt!)
@iceman - Roger that. Over and out.
No snow plows - I use to have this problem, now I live on a bus route, the snow is gone by the time I wake up.
@FT - plenty of 4:20 celebrations as well I'm sure
this song is magic and doesn't get old
kinda like old Grant, he's got good staying power
like fine wine gets better with time
@stevie - in the saturday/sunday a.m. in whistler ;)
damn time change almost killed us
@TheIceman do No Sinner have other songs?
I'm back! :)
London is great at plowing snow. It's awesome. I'll likely never experience the awesomeness that is the London Plowing System ever again.
@binsy none of my picks made the top 24 but I'm finding some interesting stuff!
do folks recommend the portage and main show on friday in Winnipeg?
steph - your profile picture is killing me. What is that thing from?
@StephRam aka my little trinidadian flower... TODAY is your last day?? Congratulations! When does the Trinidadian Train chug west?
I miss the Shotgun Jimmie sound thingy.
pj
yes
oooooh, Jets and Leafs tonight! Go Jets?
@Graham Wright - I was reminiscing about the first time we met today. The comment is in this megablog business somewhere! That was a great moment for me. Hahah!
@GRANT - I dunno... but my flight leaves at 10:10am on Thursday!!!!
PJ Yes you should go! We would not miss it!!!! #TracksonTracks!
In honour of Steph's last day I'm also having sushi today!
Be back later kids
@FLERNERL TERM - Hahahaha! It's Mr. Whiskers from Frankenweenie. Surprisingly creepy movie. The short film from way back when was better, but they still did a good job with this one. They being Tim Burton and crew.
Shotgun Jimmy is coming to Oshawa for some reason next month. there were 2 lines about it in the local paper.
I have no idea if he will be solo or what the deal is.
@christine - thanks for organizing the other day, Hope you got a good siesta in after the Mexican feast!
Back from a tasty tasty lunch (yay falafels!)
@T&C - you're profile pic is awesome. There's a Sask Drive here, wonder if that's what it's all aboot?
@351 - yeah we will see it's my buddies bday I planted the seed that's all I can do. We have a potluck and then he wanted to go for drinks. I would rather party at a show than anything!
Maybe I'll see you there.
If not enjoy!
@358 - I hope, then you can see the troll in human form
PJ GO TO THE PORTAGE AND MAIN SHOW!!! (White Ash Falls is great too!)
all acts pretty folky then?
cmac,
"great" is a bit of an overstatement :p
PJ #360 I want to meet the troll too!
HOCKEY TALK
More than halfway through the season and look who is #1 in the east! Feels good to be a Habs fan right now ;)
although I am still nervous we (the Canadiens) could tank!
@flernerl term - I WAS JUST GOING TO POST THAT LINK!
Hahaha!
GO HABS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@364 - the show starts at 8 so very doable with potluck
@Kirk >_< in YOUR opinion.
It's what happens when people send me CAD files. I think that one was from Candiac Quebec? It's always a headache to deal with.
% chance the Oil and Jets both win tonight 1%
@FT sounds like good times, glad you enjoyed it!
if I got I'll wear my Neil Young tie die shirt so I stick out (a bit)
I used to go see The Bicycles every single time they came to halifax back in the day. Man did they ever used to rule. Such pop in a filthy package!
I really like White Ash Falls too! They opened for Yukon Blonde I think, it was the first time I heard them!
boy what a let down if I don't make the now now :)
@steph - great minds think alike I suppose.
@Kirk SEE! (#374)
That wasn't to say I dislike White Ash Falls.
They're good... just not "great"
this song is gold too
Did that ever NOT sound like the Bicycles!
Why is it "paycheck" and not "paycheque"? Or is it "paycheque" and people( and my spellcheck) write it wrong?
I should have bought this Cuff the Duke album on the weekend, I had it in my hands but Motorhead won out. Oh well next week.
@Cmac - probably your spellcheck is set for American English.
@srk - Its a dandy. You should pick it up sometime for sure.
Your spellcheck is probably set to American
Spellcheque?
Unrelated, well, sort of.
There was a girl listening to Japandroids on the plane last night. I know because I saw her iPod screen thing. It was Celebration Rock, I fwelt like high fiving her but that would have been odd. So I slept.
@382 - yeah party+music+hightime= good
Christine, 381, it depends on whether you favour (favor) British and largely Canadian usage, or the American.
I think the deal is that "paycheck" all in one word is American, even outside the spelling, and that the equivalent, in Canada (in Britain they might say more "pay packet"), might have tended to be written more in two words: pay cheque.
Of course, with computer spellchecks, what are the choices? I don't think my Mac even offers Canadian, it's either American or British.
I should do the usual ice fishing invite as there is only a number of weekend left
email me at my blog name @ hotmail.com if you want to slam Lake Wpg walleye
yeah my buddy just emailed me back and says he's going to the Kings Head - o freakin' boy, maybe I'll bail on him LOL
I emcee'd my sisters wedding and apparently was quite the hit. I've done a speech at my brothers wingding too, I made his wife cry from laughing. I felt like I had done my job.
I'm available to do all weddings, just need airfare covered and my rider is a six pack of local craft beer and a pack of reeses pieces.
@FT [388] - That's the best/worst when it happens.
NOVA! I like these duders, they sound good.
I am no forever calling weddings wingdings. Thanks flernerl term.
now*
Other person: "So, what do you do?"
Me: "I'm a wingding planner."
The Wingding Planner 2: Starring Martin Short and Sterphaner Rermserher
Steph: agreed! Weddings are Wingdings.
I'm editing Wingding photos ALL WEEK this week...
I love Wingdings!!
o freakin' boy the band at the kings head (buddy's b day on friday) is Hwy 59
this is what the website says about them
Highway 59 - Hard Driving Classic Rock Band
Highway 59 is a 5-piece rock and classic rock cover band, playing a wide range of song favourites from both yesterday and today - but mostly yesterday. Based out of Winnipeg MB, we deliver a collection of classics that keep audiences dancing and longing from the nostalgia of music from better days while avoiding the tunes that have been beaten to death for the past two decades.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I emcee'd my sister-in-laws wedding. I think it's something I'd like to avoid in the future.
@cmac - that bride has a full back tattoo! wild stuff. (nice pics bee tee double you)
I am a professional wedding MC and will do twenty minutes of offensive regional jokes to kick things off.
can I skip a buddy's bday to hang with r3 folks I don't know.... stay tuned to find out!one thing is for sure the music will be good!
@cmac - Love the first bride's dress!!!!! And yeah! Nice pics fo sho! The gif is adorable.
pjrocks... I think as a birthday present to your friend you are going to take him out of his comfort zone and expose his eardrums to something new. Surely he'll thank you later.
@Grant - 20 minutes of offensive Regional jokes is a sure fire way to endear yourself to the hearts and minds of all in attendance. It's nice when you ask (or find out before hand) who is from out of town and then crack a few wise ones about them! Really shows you care!
@PJRocksMB actually, you do know us.
@PJ - ten bucks says they do "It's My Life" by Bon Jovi.
*shudder*
On facebook:
Ergheblerrrrg. So not feelin' work today. :-(
I started off really not liking Max Headroom Diamond Rings and I have to say I still woud never buy the album but it must be progress if I'm not muting or switching the channel when he comes on now.
Oh! Guess who won "Group Recording of the Year" at the ECMA's?
The Stanfields.
Re:416 - they're wearing you down. It's a radio trick, how do you think It's My Life got to be a hit?
Time change means this show starts and ends an hour earlier in Saskatchewan... that's gonna throw me for a loop for a while.
@srk - shifty radio people..... :)
So... it's my last day and my boss told me to leave early. I opted to stay here though, cause there are chairs to sit on, unlike my apartment where there's nothing. Hahaha! What a weird situation!
@StephRam when you boss told you to leave early, did he use the phrase "get out"? Also, do you have a job in Calgary?!?
@Grant - No, he didn't, but my going away gift was a pink slip. That used to mean something, right?
I don't have a job in Calgary yet... why, you know someone that can help me out? CBC Calgary maybe?
What's up everyone!
.....or did he say "Get out of my dreams and into my car"?
@Raina - Mostly just keeping it real. What up wit'chu?
@steph - Alberta geography jobs if that's your thing.
....and I'm talking to myself.........
@Raina - I'm finding out how to live live like a snobby alcoholic bourgeoisie . It's been illuminating.
@flernerl term - Thanks! I'm actually trying to avoid GIS/CAD stuff, but it might come down to that.
ooooh. sexy song.
Raina on the blerg.... does that mean a live radio host this afternoon?
Also, are you going to play some of the Searchlight finalists. Raina? I think I only heard one during Graham's show. But maybe that's cuz I'm not an intent listener.
@steph - you should get a job at a pub/bar... meet lots of hip young cats like yourself.
@flannel tom - I thought about it. The thing with working at a bar/pub is that I would rather be drinking then, not working. You know? I'll find a 9-5er no problem. Just gotta get that Calgary address, which I will in 2 days...
Nice cello on this Julia Kent song. Too bad I can't add it to a playlist.
You're a cello
but yes, it's quite nice.
this is intense. i feel impending dread while eating my sandwich.
@steph - in the meantime between finding a jerb, you can go to Morraine Lake! (it's my desktop photo... i look at it all the time and want to go back there all the time.)
#435 Oh man, so many f-hole jokes rolling through my head.
@Tom - Oh! I was there 5 years ago! It's a freakin' beaut!!
@flannel tom, Oh, you know, just making a rock radio show, living the Canadian dream.
@Cicero Those are some good life lessons we should ALL follow.
@freshginger I'm playing one Seachlight finalist, you'll know when it happens!
It's taken me a while, but I think I'm finally coming around to really liking Grimes.
Aaaand that's because this is purity ring, not Phone Sex. Urg. I'm a moron.
Cicero, moron is a tad strong, cut yourself some slack! We've all stepped in it on occasion here.
@Cicero [442] is pretty funny either way. listening to purity ring sometimes make me like grimes more too. though, i may have thought about it the other way around too. and what about austra?
@cicero, 443 - My friend and potential future roomate loves that song and all that related techno/rap/dubstep and it's part of me maybe not wanting to move in with them... he blares lots of techno... soooo much techno.
@FT - If you value your sanity, probably either hack his music collection, or set up times for him to play techno. because I couldn't handle that.
Re: Van City: I think it might be Underworld, or one of the other local skate shops, but they sell VAN CITY hoodies and I saw a few of them whilst out there so I think that yes, people definitely say it.
@NVP - I'm iffy on Austra. I don't dislike her. I don't necessarily like her a lot either. But Yeah, grimes and purity ring have something similar going on - I've always liked Purity Ring, but Grimes, it takes time, but it sounds so much like Phone Sex that I keep on being like - 'why don't I like Grimes again?'
This sounds like Maroon 5?
@TRH - Merci friend - Yeah...I'm only paying half attention to my life today it seems...
I have a feeling this is Sterph's favourite song..... [amen america]
OKAY FOLKS!
I'm outta here. Have a great afternoon/evening.
Not sure when I'll be back on the ol' blog, but I'll miss you fine folks!
Keep on rockin' n' shit.
Ciao Steph!
@flernerl term - YOU KNOW ME SO WELL!!
you keep on rockin' in the free world steph.
and doot doot a loot doooo............
DOOT DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!
heyo!!!! Guess who just bought her flights to Ontario for June...
YAY NXNE (and the arts and crafts field trip, but BOO to no CBC Music thing...I'll be at Sasquatch still)
@cmac - don't wear pants. You'll be schweaty.
@Raina - ooooh, I'm digging this!
wait, sasquatch is THAT weekend? welp, guess i'm not going.
(now watch them approve me for press)
@cicero - you should probably listen to Pony Up sometime then, they were the earlier 2000's version of this band (based on this one song)
@Ft - you know a man who cranks techno? That's some fucked up shit right there.
@FT - cool man, yeah, I will definitely check it out! Thanks! :-D
@srk - I don't want to name names but he's on this blog sometimes....
also, he would argue "it's not techno, it's_____"
I say it's all techno.
My basic rule - no guitars = techno
@Tom, I dont wear pants...ever.
Also, I lived in Toronto for 5 years...I'm aware :)
And I was there last year for TxT and NXNE :p
I just discovered Close Talker a few days ago. Very cool that they are the SK finalist! Great band!
@tom also i now remember talking about this at length. i'm tired as F.....
@Carly - going to the Powder Blue, etc show on Friday? Let's go!
I say it's all techno, but there are different subgenres within it. I don't mind some, I really like others, but basic techno I just. can't. stand.My old upstairs nieghbours used to blare techno so loud the windows of the house vibrated. They would play music from 5 pm until 8 am on weekdays. I'm pretty sure they were meth addicts. I now pretty much HAAAAAATE basic techno. I used to just not like it, now? nuh-uh.
@cmac - yes, I believe both Kirk and I made the mistake of wearing jeans in a schweaty Toronto climate.
@Tom - Of course! I love Foam Lake!
@carly - cool, I've never seen them before or anything so I think it should be good. I'm ridiculously excited to see Powder Blue - I hope they don't let me down!
@Tom - Ahh yes, I have heard good things about Powder Blue. Should be a good show!
What I've heard, I like... but they seem young and maybe could potentially be not that great live. But whatever. I'm into it.
Based on the photo, I think I like Good O'l Goats!
What has happened? Why is the blog so lonely??????
I guess I will just go back to work now......
This photo?
@Tom - Yup! I dig them. I should probably go listen to them now...
So this CBC music festival is on May 24 weekend, bring sunscreen and snow pants. You may need both.
OK. I also just looked at Close Talker's band photo in that galler up there and it seals the deal. I'm backing that band all the way for this dumb contest.
Hopefully they win a new band name.
Don't work carlyg!!!
Time to go home. wooooh.
@binsy - yeah man, 2 (maybe 3) out of 4 have their eyes closed and the one guy with the head band thing looks like a friend of mine so I will assume they are great and should win.
All votes to Close Talker (i kind of love that name too)
@Binsy - Nice work on backing Close Talkers! I really am a fan.
Sadly, I am going back to work. Life is crazy right now. Ugh!
Man they sure hid this blog today. It's not on the blog page at all and on the R3 page it still has Graham's show up there.
I don't think anybody works at the CBC anymore......
Glad that we can all agree on Clost Talker, at least on the prairies. Now we just have to win over the rest of the country.
I'll fix it!
Please for the love of good music and all that is holy stop putting this Ceramic Hello song in rotation.
That explains why whatever musician who happens to be in the building gets put on air.
Raina cares!!!
alright, I'm going to go give this Close Talker a listen and see if they win over these west coast eardrums.
@DEIRU - is that what's playing right now? Thumbs dowm!
Be sure to look at their photo as well. They should win on that basis alone.
@deiru - I think I was just tuning it out.... pret4ending I was on hold on a phone call or something....
I find this photo funny every time I look at it! It's as though it's satire, but it's exactly what it's like walking anywhere!
I have to mute this song everytime now so that Whitehorse isn't ruined for me.
that photo is GOLD. Shiny parkas, skinny legs, a headband.
Most pathetic iron throne ever.
It's got it all.
