My song, "Like The Greats" was written focusing on hockey history and was done immediately after re-watching the 2010 Gold Medal Game from the Olympics which put me in the patriotic, passionate hockey spirit.  The song is singable, memorable, and clean.  It follows a very natural progression and will have you singing along and rocking out.  Give it a listen and if you don't like it, don't vote for it.  But if you do, please give me your vote for NB.  Thank you!

My Song should be the next CBC HockeySong for several reasons .Firstly, the song is everything that the judges are looking for; it original, adaptable, and can get everyone going. Secondly, There is no ego is my recording. Sure I could have over produced t like many others here, but then I would ust be like every other one out there. Its kind of like a candy. Some are hard on the outside and all the way through, like the over produced, but others, the more exquisite tasting candies that leave you better satisfied have a hard shell with a nice juicy center, like recordings such as mine. So forget about the candies that will stick to your teeth, vote for the candy that melts in your mouth and satisfies your stomach!!!http://music.cbc.ca/artists/Michael-Michelucci Don't forget to click " Vote for this Artist" #Songquest

Heart of Hockey is a rock anthem with energizing brass lines, a neat guitar/ bass riff, a catchy melody and kids shouting out the names of various places across Canada in between images that typify hockey – Autumn, Zambonis, early mornings, cold arenas & hot coffees, Peter Puck, cheering for your team, etc… and a fun video, with a special donkey edition available! Please check out  http://music.cbc.ca/artists/David-Kennedy and vote for your favourites regularly.

I created this song 'The Cup Is Comin' Home' with the intention of satisfying the criteria of CBC Song Quest:  A fast paced song in a Rock genre with a chorus/stanza layout which is inspiring and expresses commitment and should fire up a crowd before a game.  As I composed, video clips of the intro on Hockey Night in Canada also flashed into my mind. Many people have told me that the chorus truly feels like a cheer that can be roared out from the live crowd in a stadium at a game where Canadians feel the need to feed maximum energy to the team that they want to have bring the cup home. Please listen and enjoy. Then consider and vote!

Hey. I'm not actually in the contest, but a friend of mine posted this song on a forum that I frequent. I fell in love with the tune of this song when I first listened to it, and it honestly gave me a feeling of excitement (not unlike the feeling I get when the HNIC intro begins). I know there are lots of songs in this fierce competition, and I wish everyone all the best in this Song Quest. However, I would really love it if some of you out there can give this song a chance. There's only 1 song that can win the grand prize, but I'd to see this song get the exposure it deserves (even if it doesn't end up winning the competition itself).

Either way, thanks for taking the time to read this post and I wish each and every one of you all the best.

Congrats to top 100. Public has spoken and the ones with most votes got picked. Seems like few great songs like mine, will seep trough the cracks. I Started with posting my song: " Invitation to the Hockey Nation " on CBC Song quest and plays, votes trickled in. When contest officially started, my song file was there, but CBC did NOT enter it into the contest ! I contacted them and with in 2 days i was up and running. Technical problem I guess, I wasn't given a reason. Personally, I've heard couple hundred songs, but only a dozen , including mine, that are good enough to make a cut.  Public voting helped many songs, that shouldn't even be in top 100. Never the less, good luck to all that made it.  To my friends, family, co-workers, facebook pals and all those supported me :keep voting, playing my song    Thank you Kruno

"Heart of a Nation"

by

John Patelis

Ice & snow & away we go

Faster than the mere I can see

Follow through, how' bout you!

Deke & steal the real deal

Blue line Red line on the edge of the crease

5hole baby & you need a new lease

We're the true Macks plaid shirt toting lumberjacks!

Gimme sum o'that ol'Sherwood

cause this sure ain't no Hollywood

Bump & grind until I unwind

Heart of a Nation One Destination

Always at the edge of your seat

This is the spirit that can't be beat

Scream & shout

You all know what I'm talkin'bout

From our backyard to the pond

Like true blood brothers we were bond

All for one & one for all

Brothers in arms the deed is done

Gimme sum o'that ol'Sherwood

cause this sure ain't no Hollywood

Bump & grind until I unwind

Heart of a nation  one destination

One Destination: "SHOOT"

I could see my breath every step of the way

Thinking about the past until this very day

Doesn't matter if it's day or night

Put'em up get ready to fight

Don our blades impatiently

Waiting in the wings to be set free

Hearts beatin' like adrenaline drums

Full open boys up until we're numb

Gimme sum o'that ol'Sherwood

cause this sure ain't no Hollywood

Bump & grind until I unwind

Heart of a nation  one destination

Heart of a Nation!One Destination!

Heart of a Nation! One Destination!

Heart of a Nation! One Destination!

Heart of a Nation! One Destination!

I created this song with the intention of satisfying the criteria of CBC Song Quest: A fast paced song in a Rock genre with a chorus/stanza layout which is inspiring and expresses commitment and should fire up a crowd before a game.

Hey Folks. I really think you have to hear my song The Good Old Canadian Hard Rockin' Hockey Game.

It is a great song that talks about what hockey means to Canadians and how we grew up with the dream.

If you listen, I know you;ll vote for it.

Check out the Lyrics:

For that good old Canadian. Hard rocking, Hockey GameThanks

Oddi

http://music.cbc.ca/artists/Oddi-and-the-Odd-man-rush

The day my dad laced up my skates

I knew I loved the game, I knew I had to play

I wore my Number 4 to bed,

Yeah, I had dreams of going all the way

Day dreaming at my desk

Couldn’t wait for the bell to ring

So we could start a pick up game

We’d play ‘till momma called us in

Yeah, we’d say…

Come on, come on, it’s time for the hockey game

Come on, drop the puck and fire away

You know, some things never change,

‘Cause the passion still remains

For that good old Canadian. Hard rocking, Hockey Game

I remember every Saturday Night

Gathered round the set, we’d never miss a game

You know that I can still recall

Every player’s number, every player’s name

Looking back, well I know now

That’s when my dad became my friend,

When I lace up my kids skates

I know that feeling will never end.

Yeah, I say

Come on, come on, it’s time for the hockey game

Come on, drop the puck and fire away

You know, some things never change,

‘Cause the passion still remains

For that good old Canadian. Hard rocking, Hockey Game

Ice Hockey, ball hockey, roller hockey, sledge hockey, shinny hockey

Field Hockey, pond hockey, air hockey, road hockey…

Come on, come on, it’s time for the hockey game

Come on, drop the puck and fire away

You know, some things never change,

‘Cause the passion still remains

V - Van Halen

O - Ozzy

T - The Tragically Hip

E - Elvis

H- had the pleasure of rocking out with van halen in Saskatoon and sang panama live infront of 13,000 plus fans. Right now....Van Halen music is probably being played in a hockey arena somewhere right now

E- Every hockey fan has heard Ozzy's' crazy train rock the rinks. I'd  like to rock Lloydminster with that one too, I love singing ozzy tunes!!

R - Rocked with The Hip as well back in the day, (the manor, good times) my parents who live in Kingston are eagerly voting for me and my mom just had two hip replacements. ( see what I did there.)

E- Everybody Loved Elvis or at least I did when I was growing up. I wanted his job, never got it, but I did win a CBC Elvis impersonation contest on CBC Saskatchewan radio about 15 years ago...thank you, thank you very much

Like a hockey player, I wear my heart on my sleeve but really It is all about the spirit of hockey. That is why I called this anthem "For The Spirit Of Hockey"

So if you have some hockey spirit in you, take a skate over to this rink and have a listen. You can even give it a critique here, and if you dig it and you feel  that it seems worthy for CBC , please let them know by voting and passing the puck around.

I love to entertain as many of you probably do too and I wish everyone the best of luck with whatever they have going on with their musical passions, because like hockey, it is a passion for the notes as well as it is a passion for the puck. There is a good read in my bio that gives a peek a boo of some of the events that occurred when I recorded this anthem. I even took a skate and made sure it crossed the path of the guitar strings to join the forces. A powerful exciting anthem, that strikes the right chords.

On that note, hopefully I have entertained all of you, so do the same and please entertain me now, hit the link, and have a little fun,...but remember,......Keep your sticks on the ice and keep your head up...For The Spirit Of Hockey

We're standing on our seats!  We're joining in the chants!

delivering big hits, and tic tac toe passes...

scoring highlight reel goals; we're really kickin asses!

we might even drop our gloves and fight...

cause the Stanley Cup is in sight...

I've listened to quite a few of these top 100 songs. Some are very good but what I think most of them lack is simplicity and melody. If you think of the great songs that people sing in the arenas they all have memorable melodies and they are simple enough that everyone who hears them learns them instantly. My song is not in the top 100 so I guess I might be tilting at windmills here, but if you people who are voting are really looking for a new arena song, maybe it isn't too late to give mine a listen. If you don't think it measures up, fair enough, but at least give it a listen: http://music.cbc.ca/artists/Alec-Duncan

Close your eyes and imagine the cuts that fit in the song for the video intro to CBC Hockey Night In Canada. Slow motion in the change room standing up, the blades of their skates, the bead of sweat dripping from their faces, walking to the arena in silhouette, and then skating at high speed to the goalie, scoring a goal, dropping the gloves, pounding a rival...etc.  And when you hear the chorus, imagine the crowd chanting it out live at a game. Consider this, play, listen, enjoy, and vote! Thank you.

This is the story that inspired me to write/compose a song about a sport that means so much to our great nation, Canada:

Hockey Night in Canada was & still is to this day a true ritual. Every Saturday night the family(& most friends families) would gather in front of the television to watch our local team play against its opponent. To be born & raised in Montreal QC during the 60's/70's was a blessing. Montreal is considered by many the birthplace of Ice Hockey & anywhere you'd look, there would be youngsters playing our favorite sport, the game of Hockey.

From our backyards to lanes, streets, schoolyards, ponds, lakes & finally onto proper ice-rinks. It was a true obsession & we just couldn't wait until the whole neighborhood got together to stage & play a game. Others would stand by as spectators & cheer on those who participated in the game, that would go on until the sun went down(sometimes continuing late into the night with the help of the streetlamps).

We would play almost every other day & through all four seasons(whatever the conditions) or else we felt something was missing. I was very fortunate to have been one of those who found immense joy in playing hockey. It's a tough sport & I still sport the scars from back in the day with pride.

We all had our heroes & favorite teams. Growing up each & every one of us wanted to be like our heroes, literally copying their every move, gesture etc. & of course collect their hockey cards(of which some still exist, in my case Ken Dryden's which is cherished) plus play table hockey indoors wearing our favored team's & player's jersey!

We would also give eachother nicknames just like the Rocket, Roadrunner etc. so we could "act" out the part & be cool too!

Ken Dryden was the epitome of what hockey meant to me personally as a youngster. Spent hours on end trying to simulate his style..so I thought! I just couldn't get over his first goal-mask so I had to find something that resembled it the most. The only thing that came close, was Tony Esposito's mask which was very popular(actually saving me from serious injury during a slash, after a follow through from an opposing team's player directly under the right eye). I then proceeded in acquiring the blocker, glove & pads from a best buddy & finally a proper goalie stick.

Even if every piece of equipment was oversized, I couldn't care less though cause in my 12yr old mind I was mini-Dryden in the making & simply was in heaven! ( had managed to find a second hand net too, which was quite rare plus difficult to get back then & drag it out every single time we had a game so we had a proper "rink" setting so to speak).

It was the era when Montreal would win one Stanley Cup after another lifting the city's spirits to new heights. Those were the days as one would say. Then when Canada would go on to defeat Russia in the summit between the two countries, we knew that we had the top national hockey team in the world & we were extremely proud to be the World Champions! Will never forget the TV on the stand with coasters, rolled into the classroom by our teacher so we could witness the final between Canada's best & Russia's "Red Army". The images are still embedded in my mind after all these years & I don't think that they will ever disappear.

No matter the outcome, it's a true honor to participate in the #SongQuest for Hockey Night in Canada & wish all entries the best of luck.

That being said, we have to prepare because Saturday night is that night. The night a whole nation becomes one big heart and gathers to watch & enjoy our own pride & joy, the game of Hockey on the CBC's "Hockey Night in Canada"!

Must we not forget fellow Canucks: "He shoots, he scores"!

There is Only One Song in a Thousand that is Fighting for LIFE! That song is WeLoveHockey!

Hockey is the life blood of Canada. It brings out our National pride like no other medium. In a Nation full of Hockey songs, only one will be remembered in the CBC Songquest. What if that song were remembered for saving lives at the same time as celebrating our game?

Should my song go forward, I’m asking for all the artists that have been eliminated to consider VOTING for WeLoveHockey and to consider contacting me so that your hockey song can help in the battle for LIFE.

WeLoveHockey is rallying the Power and Passion of Hockey to rise up as one nation in the fight4 Mental Health and Suicide Prevention. This cause is urgent. This cause is great! Your music can be part of it.

100 Years of Carnage

In the last 100 years of Canada’s military, we have lost about 112,000 soldiers/deaths. In that same 100 years Canada’s death to Suicide is about 500,000. We have a crisis, a crisis that shatters families and dreams. Our First Responders, our Youth, our First Nations are prime examples of this crisis, where the rates are very high in comparison to what is average. Any rate is not to be considered average and we must all “Drop the Gloves and Fight”. The costs are huge in terms of impact of lives and the economy.

I believe that Hockey can make the difference. Can Hockey rise up and help in this crisis? Yes we Canada.

Win or Lose, I/we/you have all made a great contribution to our National Sport. So please consider making your hockey song part of TheHockeyProject’s fight 4 LIFE, by contacting me at my website. www.TheHockeyProject.ca

Thank you and good luck in the contest. Canada Strong. Larry Pegg
