@graham

I mentioned it on the afternoon blog yesterday, and believe you might get a kick out of it.

I came across a burnt CD in the park a couple nights ago repairing a flat tire.

It was from a band called 'Novels'. you may have heard of them.

Alas it is scratched.

I built a monotron sequencer, then I effed it with the wrong adapter, now it’s fixed. I can stop hating myself for being a knucklehead. Thought you’d all like to know that.

I'll go with Shad, AF, PUP and Chromeo - put'em wherever you like.

SRK, sure, we mess up, but the positive spin on it, without being a Pollyanna* about it, the bottom line in actual fact, is that you fixed it and now it works.

If you had to build three more, you wouldn't make the same mistake.

Because now you're smarter from having messed up.

@BfO – A monotron is a 50 dollar analog synthesizer by Korg, it has only a tiny ribbon controller to play it. I tapped into the CV (control voltage) of the synth so I could ‘play’ it with a different controller. That controller is an 8 step sequencer that I build from a 555 timer and a decade counter.  Think On the Run from Darkside of the Moon

they're OK, I don't have a problem with the naming of this song (Like A) Rolling Stone but really, I mean, it's kind of... I don't  know. Its like if there was a new band everybody was excited to see and you go "what's their name?" and your friend says "The Beetles". You'd stop and be like, "wait - are they serious?"

That said I have nothing against fun. I don't lpve that badn though, they kind of just sound like everything else.

Speaking of the Beetles.... [this airliner man song...]

But, at -30, no one is interested in commuting to work in anything besides a heated vehicle.  Except for the few people with mental instabilities that ride their bikes.

@krib I think you'd have to freeze it in slabs and then lay the slabs on the hill, then water the cracks to fill them in.  But you're right, not easy.

One of the biggest things for bikers, for me anyway, is that its hard to see them in traffic because of all the exhaust.  As it gets colder, exhaust is visible for longer and people on bikes on the road can sometimes get lost in it.  It doesn't help that some of them only have one tail light and one headlight or something like that.  And wear all black.

@krib they're bike lanes, but just on side of the road...mostly.  Our downtown is so small though.  It runs parallel to the river, and there is a paved multiuse path that follows the river, so in the summer that is what I use when I'm biking through downtown.  Its not easy to get east/west across downtown on a bike though (or in a car, for that matter).  The collector that heads up to a couple of the main subdivisions also has a multiuse trail that follows it, but its separate from the road.

However, I'm not actually sure if they keep those paths clear during the winter or not.  I'm pretty sure the one that isn't downtown gets used for snowmobile access.

Toronto feels like America. Vancouver is foreign feeling, somehow. (not dirty enough to be Canadian?) Quebec/Montreal is, well, french and European feeling. Halifax and the east coast are too weird and far removed.

These results are not scientific.

Alana, you can do whatever you want. It's stuff you would listen to while drinking beer at the end of the day. It doesn't all have to be speedy, or even heavy.

Allison (by Jeremy Fisher) would be pretty good beer o'clock song, IMO. Cigarette or High School, too
