I hear tell that some of you are knee deep in our August book, Maintenance by Montreal’s Rob Benvie. That's great to hear. Again, Benvie is best known for playing in bands like the Dears, Camouflage Nights, Tigre Benvie and, of course, with Joel Plaskett in Thrush Hermit. After last week's successful give-away, I'm once again offering my remaining copies of the book to folks on Twitter. Read on for instructions.
I'm at a point in the book where the characters really seem like questionable people. There are whiffs of infidelity, a mom buying strange teenagers beer before getting high with them and a young man who suffers from delusions and narcissism. These people are in the same family and they each have issues.
While I initially thought they were crumbling under the end-of-days Y2K tension accompanying the dog days of 1999, I now see them as hopelessly bored and restless with their stations in life. What do you make of the action in the book thus far?
I have copies of Maintenance to offer two people (not employed by the CBC) who retweet a tweet I'll send out today with #CBCMaintain from @vishkhanna. Look out for that and you will be victorious.
If you do win, please send your name (real and blog), mailing address and winning answer to email@example.com with “Y2K People Problems” in the subject line.
What are your thoughts about Maintenance thus far? Do you have any questions for Benvie about his book? If so, please share them below. Otherwise, what'cha readin'?
