I have already laughed so much, and that was just one host break!  also, I am on here early because I have to go to my damn classes soon and will miss most of the show, so I wanted to maximize my blogging time.

garf: can't say that I have... I used to work at a bank though.

folk does have a connotation, which can be offputting.  but it is all connotation.  Words are just words.  We assign meaning to them and then attach emotion to that assigned meaning.  and blah blah blah it's too early for this.

Morning everyone! I have to run out to a couple of meetings today so won't be here to share in the revelry. But my friend wrote a pretty thoughtful response to Anupa Mistry's commentary that there should be overrepresentation of specific genres to overome a rock-centric bias in Polaris. Take a read if you'd like and let me know what you think and I'll poke back in later for your thoughts... :)

Did anyone hear about the crazy rain in New York yesterday? ~40mm fell in Central Park in an hour, and there was crazy thunder and lightning and all that. (The storm's intensity was exactly the way climate modellers describe future storms, fyi)

Dr. Who Full disclosure - I do not have a single clue what is going on in Dr. Who.  It's my daughter who is the fan, so I try to get by as best I can, but in general I am totally confused whenever I watch it.

However, since we were talking about nerdy shows, thought I would mention the Sunday space channel showings.

I don't think it shouldn't go to Drake because he doesn't need the money, I think it shouldn't go to Drake because I can't pinpoint what's so groundbreakingly artistic about it.

@PJ: how would one go about re-sealng pop? Not that I'm looking to smuggle booze anywhere...

I this show should needs more host-breaks. It always makes me sad when I can only catch the last hour or so of the co-host.

Doctor Who ... where to start.  I've been a fan since the start of the 80's (Tom Baker -era stuff).  It's much more of an emotional story than a sci-fi one; especially in the new series.  It's about relationships and adventure and morality and, sometimes, even aliens.  The Doctor that you love the most, relate to the most, might be different than other people, but that's okay; it's kind of like Radio3 in that sense.  It's an incredible show that has had a real run on fantastic actors playing The Doctor.  It's a different show every time the Doctor regerates, but it's also the same somehow.

Train Update:

It looks like Belleville or Oshawa are my best bets. Both have 5ish trains, which would give me enough time to get there and settle in.

Also, I've never taken a train in Canada. This is a weekend of firsts!

ooh! I didn't know Belleville had a train. That'd be a good idea!

Belleville is a LONG way from London, though.

@Westcrunch:  Where is your train originating from?   I dont think it would be a great idea to get off in Bellville or Oshawa, because then you will be stranded.  If you cant get a train directly to London, get yourself to Toronto, and take a Greyhound Bus.  They leave frequently, and only take about 2 hrs.

@EricR and FrenchCrunch is in La Belle Province somewheres, right?  If you are trying to get to London you want to get at least to Kitchener-Waterloo, or Toronto.  If you can get into Toronto you can catch a bus, Greyhound or even look into shuttles.  There may be a shuttle from the airport (Pearson) to London.  It will cost more, but it may be an option.

GO has quite a transportation network throughout Southern Ontario, I think you can go onto their website and tell them point A and point B and they will tell you how to get their in their vehicles.

I travel around southern Ontario a lot without any kind of personal transport when I go back for visits.

@laurita -- I love that after the past heat wave 26 degrees is considered chillier. I wore pants to work today for the first time in weeks. In Vancouver, I'd be prancing around in hardly anything if it was 26 degrees.

I think it's good, but producers sometimes influence the band they're producing a little too much. I'm thinking, too, of Two Hours Traffic's work with Joel Plaskett as producer.

@Craig, FT -- that's very true, about the producer's involvement.  And, while I like the Black Keys, and this new track, I thought the Sheepdogs had/have a good sound already.  Hopefully this track is just a bit of a 'lost leader' to pull new fans to the band/album.

@steph [240] - I'm gooooood. I've been super busy at work this week (well, not really, but I now have a much larger work load.... maybe a raise is in order? mmmmmm, raises....)

Re: sheepdogs/black keys - it's (the new single) definately a hook filled bait track that will either do it's trick and get people into them whoaer into black keys but it could also backfire on them... here's hoping the rest of the new album is just good - whoever it sounds like.

I'm the opposite. I could never live in Toronto. I would be fine in the winter, but I don't do heat well. I spend a week there, in June, and I was not liking it. The week after I left, it went up to 40, and more recently it was up to 50 (with the humidex). Fifty!

If you say to someone in Quebec that you want a 2-4 they'll think it's probably something kinky.

Did the humidex really reach 50? I hadn't heard that. I live 2 hours east of T.O. and we only really hit 32 with around a 50-60% humidity (40-42 humidex).

@flannel tom - Yes! Raises are always good. I'm almost due for one as well. But I hope to not be working here too much longer. I'm glad you found some time to check in here today! :)

Ontario's gas prices are much more moderate than QC's. We make up for that with insurance premiums, though.

I know it seems like the cities are close-ish on a map, but I notice a huge difference between Ottawa/Montreal and Toronto. In winter, my friends in T dot are like OH MY GOD THERE'S AN INCH OF SNOW WHAT DO WE DO WITH OURSELVES and my friends in ottawa/montreal all just gawp and think man, we can put away 10 inches in like 2 days.

no offense to Toronto though. I visited a lot 2 years ago and had a blast. Just lost 10lbs in sweat ;) but still had a blast!

A case is only 12??? sheesh. get with the program, people! (says the girl who is good with 2 pints).

@EricR I whole heartedly agree with that statement.  I still buy my beer by multiples of 24 (normally, 15's for my hockey bag).  But getting 2 12 packs is a pain in the ass.

re: oppressive damp weather - even moving down to southern Ontario for school it was so gross.  I had never really felt 110% humidity before, and it absolutely blew my mind when it pissed down rain and was just as humid after it stopped as it had been before it rained.  I have a deep, burning dislike for southern Ontario.
