Have you ever mentioned a bands name only to have someone ask “Who is he?” Today we celebrate the glorious confusion when an artist might be assumed to be a solo act (only to discover they’re a five piece band!)

To make things even more confusing, there are many artists like Patrick Watson, Sam Roberts or Marilyn Manson who are a person… and a band. Then there’s Alice Cooper, which was originally the name of the Detroit group, but front man Vincent Furnier took on the name and, according to Contact Music, says it was the best decision he ever made.

Let’s not forget Franz Ferdinand, who is a band named after a person.  Confused? Well, at least the answers are usually just a click away.

Here are some artists who will not be able to ride with you on a bicycle built for two:

Elliott Brood
Sidney York
Rilo Kiley
Pat Jordache
Harvey Danger
Max Webster
Lynard Skynard
Billy Talent
Del Bel

Today we’ll get to some of the origins of these names.

Have any band names mislead you?
Who were you pleasantly surprised to not be what you expected?

Coming up we'll talk to Sidney York to get the story behind their name.
