Each year, the Polaris Prize's first announcement – the 40-album strong long list – seems to be met with equal shares of cheers and hisses as Canadian music fans search the list for snubs and surprises.
This year's announcement was made Thursday at Vancouver's Waldorf Hotel. The list features a wide range of marquee (Leonard Cohen, Drake, Feist), emerging (Rose Cousins, Grimes) and obscure (A Tribe Called Red, Avec pas d'casque) acts, and, true to tradition, the announcement left plenty of social media noise to be made about the results.
