The UEFA Euro Championship is heating up as the group stage wraps up. As soccer and music go hand in hand, today we salute one of the most dynamic soccer players in history. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo may argue about which one of them is the best in the world, but will they ever generate as much fervour as the Argentina legend Maradona?
Manu Chao has paid tribute to Maradona on more than one occasion. On his 2007 album La Radiolina, he sings "La Vida Tómbola," beginning with the lyrics, "If I was Maradona...." ("Si yo fuera Maradona....") Serbian filmmaker Emir Kusturica also uses Chao's song in his documentary about Maradona.
Check out this clip, taken from the film, of Chao serenading Maradona with his song "La Vida Tómbola" ("Life is a Lottery").
And capturing some of the frenzied intensity of the soccer fan, here is Chao with his band Mano Negra singing "Santa Maradona."
What soccer player in this year’s Euro deserves the Maradona tribute? Let us know in the comments.
