After earning a reputation as Toronto’s most jaw-droppingly great live punk rock band, Toronto’s METZ have just announced that their self-titled, debut full-length will be released on Oct. 9 on Seattle’s legendary Sub Pop Records.
“It’d come as no surprise that we like those early Nirvana and Mudhoney records,” explains the band’s vocalist and guitarist, Alex Edkins. “But even before that, with the Sub Pop 100 compilations with bands like Sonic Youth and Naked Raygun, we’ve always held them [in high regard] and, to be able to work with them is a real thrill. It’s like a teenage dream come true, not to get all mushy on you.”
METZ are opening for Archers of Loaf at the Phoenix this Saturday, June 16, as part of NXNE.
To hear our full interview with Edkins about how METZ captured their live intensity in the studio, and more about their future plans (including a stop at Sappyfest in Sackville, N.B.), you have two options. You can download it here if you just right-click and “Save target as” to grab the MP3. Or to stream it instead, just press play.
