The source of Kid Koala’s musical mining knows no boundaries. On Sept. 17, the DJ releases his latest offering, 12 Bit Blues.
As Kid Koala notes in a recent interview, “Being a DJ and a record collector, I started drawing all of these lines backwards from the music I was into as a teenager and was like, wow, all of this stuff correlates to the blues, and I got really heavy into it.”
Wander over to the Ninja Tune site for a preview of the new disc. It is classic Kid Koala, with the added bonus of a focused theme. Collectors will want to opt for the hard copy of the disc over the digital version, as it will be issued with a homemade turntable kit.
Discussions around the future of the blues, as a viable form of music moving forward, are always on the go. It is refreshing to see a young performer, from an entirely different background, embracing the roots of popular music, and making changes.
