In honour of Record Store Day, there are many exclusive releases coming out to mark the occasion. As previously reported, the Flaming Lips are releasing a record with basically everyone who has ever played music, the long forgotten Neil Young/Rick James band the Mynah Birds is re-releasing a 7” and even Katy Perry is releasing some vinyl.
Canadian darling Feist has teamed up with the unlikeliest of bands for her Record Store Day release: Mastodon. The heavy metal act from Atlanta, Ga., is releasing a 7” where they cover Feist’s “A Commotion,” and Feist covers Mastodon’s song “Black Tongue.”
What has always struck me as odd about Record Store Day releases is that in many cases the “exclusive” tracks end up online. (I guess the old adage rings true: “If it’s not online it never happened.”) Such is the case for the Feist/Mastodon collaboration – the tracks have been posted to Soundcloud. Take a listen to the covers and the originals below.
